IMPROVEMENT IN BAND-COMBS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 62,686, dated April 27, 1875; application filed June 28, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knewn that I, HENRY A. PROUTY, of Worthville, in the county of Jefferson and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attachment for Semi- .circular Combs, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved attachment for semicircular combs. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, straightened out.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved attachment for semicircular combs, which will keep the comb firmly upon the head, will keep the hair of the wearer smooth, and will prevent the hair from falling forward over the eyes when the wearer stoops.
The invention consists in a semicircular comb pivoted at its ends to the sides of an ordinary semicircular comb, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a strip of rubber or any suitable material, such as combs are usually made of, and the ends of which have holes formed through them to receive the rivets, by which they are pivoted to the sides of an ordinary semicircular comb about one and a half inch from the ends of said comb. The attachment A may have teeth a formed upon its middle part.
In using the comb the attachmentis brought into line with the main comb, and the two are placed upon the head in the usual way. The attachment'A is then turned down over the back of the head, so as to keep the comb in place, keep the hair smooth, and prevent the hair from falling over the eyes, should the wearer stoop forward.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A semicircular comb pivoted at its ends to the sides of an ordinary semicircular comb near its ends, substantially as herein shown and described.
