DEVICE TO PREVENT ROTATON OF BBINS.
Application filed ctoter 28, `Serial o.
This invent-ion relates to nnilti-eoldr weft replenishing ine'othani'sins of they type set forth in Patent No` 1,030,748 and it is the general object oit the invention to' provide the walls iof the several bobbin compartinent's with yielding surfaces having a relatively high coefiieiency of friction to the end that the butts of the bobbins inay be resisted in 'heir normal tendeny to rotate.
t is found `when bobbins arf reqni'red lto wait for anyl length of time before transfer in the usual form. of multi-color weft r ple'nishing niechani'snis that diie to vibration of the loom they tend to rotate on their axes, this rotation in some instances resulting in breaking of the thread which extends to thethread hold-er, Varions devices have been snggestedo correct this defect but inost, ot thein have involved a inoving part. It is a fnrt'her object o f invention t6 overcoine this tendency on the part of the bobbins to rotate by lining lthe walls of the bobbin compartments with a substance such as rnbber.
It isfound .that slight i'rre'gulnrities-exist in the width of the varionsbobbin coni` partments diie to .the niovenient of the pattern in the sandl dnring the molding process and it is found that sonne of the compartinents are wide' enough to .perinit vibration oi' the bobbins to any undesirable, degree. It is a still` f urthei" ohje'ct of the" invention to ooinpensate for variations inthe width of the compartments providing any elastic Aeleniein conveniently applieiily v`to' the conipar'trnent walls'Y Aand stretchedtof vary its -hiuiii'ess sj@ riiir i rei'iriv'ny their prrr lor the elementA willA in a" wide',eempartnient to render the saiheof fdesirable width.v
ith these and other bjeftsl in` v i'ew which willy appear as tl'ije` l des'orip'tion prooeeds, iny invention resides in the Conibination and l arrangementy .of parts" hereinafter described and set forth inthe ,.ilainis.; y
In the accompanying drawings' wherein I-have shown three dierent Jforms of my invention,
Fig. 1 is a vertical transverse section through a portion of a multi-color weft replenishing mechanism looking toward the butt end of the bobbins, and having the elastic element a plied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line 2--2 of Fig. 1,

The iange 14 in said Fig. 4 is shown as provided with a pair of narrow rubber bands 22 so proportioned as to it between the rings 17 on the bobbin head. In these modified forms the feature set forth in Fig. 3 is present, the friotional Contact between the ange and the inner surface of the band overcoming any tendency on the part of the band to assume a uniform cross section after it has been set to a position correspending to that shown in Fig. 8.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a very simple means for compensating .for the slight irregularities which occur :in the width of the bobbin compartn'ients and that the means employed present to the bobbins a surface having a relatively high coefficient of friction. In this way the compartments which are of objectionable width may be made narrower by a substance having a surface oifering resistance to the rotation of the bobbins.
Having thus described my invention it will be apparent that changes and modifications may be made therein by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invent-ion', and I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed but what I claim is:
l. In a weft replenishing loom, a frame, flanges extending therefrom and defining bobbin compartments, and resilient means carried by one of the flanges and common to two adjacent compartments, said means presenting a surface having a relatively high coeiicient of friction to the bobbins and capable of movement as a whole in a direction parallel to the compartment to assume a plurality of relative positions with respect to the flange to vary the width of the compartments.
2. In a weft replenishing mechanism, means defining aV pair of adjacent bobbin compartments, a wall between and common to said compartments, and resilient means supported by and extending on both sides of the wall to be common to both compartments, said means being movable as a whole with respect to the wall in a direction parallel. to the compartments so that the greater portion thereof may lie in one compartment vand the lesser portion thereof in the other compartment to compensate for slight variations in the width of the compartments.
3. In a weft replenishing mechanism, means defining a pair of adjacent bobbin compartments, a wall between and common to said compartments, and a continuous resilient member stretched around and supported on the wall and movable relatively to the wall to have the larger portion thereof in one compartment and the smaller p0rtion thereof in the other compartment to compensate for variations in the width of the compartments.
4. In a weft replenishing mechanism, means defining a pair of adjacent bobbin compartments, a wall between and common to said compartments, and a continuous resilient member stretched around and support ed on the wall and movable relatively to the wall to have the larger portion thereof in one eomparti'nent and the smaller portion thereof in the other compartment to compensate for variations in thel width of the compartments, said member having a surface with a relatively high coefficient of friction to hold the same on the wall and also to resist rotation of the bobbins in the compartment.
5. In a weft replenishing mechanism, means defining a pair of adjacent bobbin compartments, a wall between and common to the compartments, and a resilient member held to the wall and capable of being stretched to have the thicker portion thereof in one compartment and the thinner portion thereof in the other compartment to compensate for variations in the width of the compartments.
6. In a weft replenishing mechanism, means defining a pair of adjacent bobbin compartments, a wall between and common to both compartments, and a continuous rubber band mounted on the wall and common to both compartment-s, said rubber band being movable relatively to the wall and held frictionally thereto to have the thicker portion thereof in one compartment and the thinner portion thereof in the other compartment to compensate for variations in the width of the compartments.
7. In a weft replenishing loom, a frame, a pair of spaced parallel flanges, a third `flange parallel to and lying between the pair of flanges to form with the latter a pair of bobbin compartments, and an element stationary and held to the third flange and lying partly in each of the compartments, the portion of the element in one compartment being thinner than the portion there of lying` in the other compartment, said element being .movable as a whole relatively to the third flange to assume different positions relatively thereto to vary the width of the compartments.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
