This invention relates to certain improvements in folding deliveries which have been designed for use particularly in connection with printing machines, though useful m other relations.
In certain types of deliveries, particularly those employing a rotary foldin mechanism, the product is folded ofi y' be ng tucked into a pair of nipping jaws earned b the foldin cylinder, a blade being emplayed for tuc 'ng the. product into the j aws. As the cylinder rotates the product 1S taken around the cylinder and folded, and after folding is taken from the foldin cylinder by a delivery cylinder from w job it is finally delivered in any desired way. The delivery cylinders are provided with sheet taking devices, and where these sheet taking devices, as is the case in many instances, are grippers trouble has been experienced in transferring the folded product to the grippers of the delive cylinder, due to the fact that the folded e ge of the product is fre quently not entirely free from the nipping jaws and lies within the'peri hery of the folding cylinder so that the grippers of the delivery cylinder miss it, thereby causing a choke. In order that thegrippers on the delivery. cylinder will have time to properly act,- it is desirable that the folded edge of the product should be substantially in a line withthe surface ofthe folding cylinder at the time the grippers act. It is a special 0 ject of the present invention to provide a construction where a'fold- .ed product is transferred from a rotary cari rier having nipping jaws 'to a delivery cylinder or carrier having grippers which will act to free thefoldededge of the product from the jaws'and cause it to lie in substantially a line with the surface of the carrier so that the gripper will take it at the proper time without a miss A further object of the invention is to provide such a construction which shall be sim 1e, of few parts, and which will not inter ere with the operation of the nipping jaws or of the grippers.
With these and other objects not speoifi cally referred to in View, the invention consists in certain novel parts, arrangements and combinations which will be described in connection with the accompanying drawings and the novel features pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed.

In accordance with the invention,.means are provided for freeing the product from the nipping jaws and causing it to assume a position substantially in line with the surface of the cylinder. These means may vary, but they will, however, include resilient devices against which the product is drawn by the nipping jaws so that when'the nipping jaws are operated to release the prodnot these resilient devices will act to force the product outwardly and cause it to assume a position in line with the surface of the cylinder, as shown in Fig. 4, so that it will be surely seized by the grippers. In the specific construction disclosed these devices are in the form of flat springs, indicated generally by the numeral 27 in Fig. 6, any desired number of these springs being distributed along the cylinder, four such These s rings are, as shown, generally bowed shape and are provided with upstanding legs 28 by which the may be secured in the recess 18 of the cylinder, as by means of screws 29. These springs are preferably free at their other ends and the free ends are flattened, as indicated at 30. Furthermore, the springs will, in the best constructions, be provided with a hump 31 forming in effect a shoulder 32 at the rear of the hump.
The product is drawn in by the nipping jaws against these springs causing the springs to assume the position shown in Fi 3, the hump forming a sort of stop orgui e for the folded edge of the product. When the nipping jaws are operated to release the product the springs force the product 11;. wardly to the position shown in Fig. 4, t e hump assisting in this movement. In order to prevent the folded edge of the product from being forced outwardly too far, stops:

From the delivery cylinder 22 theproduct may be finally delivered in any way, as by a tape delivery, indicated by the numeral 35, 7 though it will be understood, of course that any desired delivery may be employed.
With the construction shown and described the product is positively cleared from the bite of the nipping jaws and is correctly positioned on the surface of the roll to enable it to be surely taken by the grippers, so that no missed products result, and quick and eflic ient action of the parts is insured. While the invention has been shown and described in its preferred form,
it will be understood that various changes may be made in the specific construction of the spring and its associated parts without departing from the invention as defined in the appended claims. It will be further understood that'the invention is not to be restricted to a folding cylinder, but may be used in constructions where a product is transferred by nipping jaws from one position and delivered to the gripping mechanism of a cooperating carrier.
What is claimed is:
1. In a delivery, the combination of a rotary carrier provided with nipping jaws, a
cooperating carrier to which the product is delivered provided with sheet taking grippers, means for freeing the product from the nipping jaws and causim it to lie in a line substantially that of the surface of the nipping jaw carrier when released by the jaws, and means for limiting the move ment of the freeing means. 4
2. In a delivery, the combination of a rotary carrier provided with nipping jaws, a
cooperating carrier to which the product is delivered provided with grippers, and resilient means on the rotary carrier put under tension by the product and acting to free the product and direct it into the path of the grippers when released by the nipping aws.
3. In a delivery, the combination of a rotary cylinder provided With nippin jaws, a cooperating cylinder provided wit pers, and spring means on the rotary cylinder com ressed by the product as it is taken by t e nipping jaws.
4. In a delivery, the combination ofa rotary carrier provided with nipping jaws, a
cooperating carrier provided with grippers and resilient means against which the" product is drawn by the nipping jaws, said means acting to free the product from the jaws and direct it into the path of the grippers.
5. In a delivery, the combination of a rotary carrier provided with nipping jaws, a

8. 11. In a delivery, the combination of a rotary carrier provided with nipping jaws, a cooiperating carrier provided with grippers, an a fiat spring secured at one end on the rotary carrier and free at its other end and put under tension by the product as it is taken by the nipping jaws.
12. In a delivery, the combination of a rotary carrier provided with nipping jaws, a cooperating carrier provided with grippers, a flat spring secured at one end on the rotary carrier and free at its other end and put under tension by the product as it is taken by the nippin jaws, and a stop for limiting theexpan mg movement of the spring. p
