Another object of the invention is the provision oi aunitary scraping mechanism comprising a supporting plate, ascraper member, guidesfor the-scraper member,-and means for actuating the scraper member all mounted on the supporting plate, the latter being-secured to the roll housings in adjusted relation to the entrance passage.

It is advantageous to provide for the movement of the guides 81 and 31 outwardly relative to the path of travel of sheets entering the mill so that no interference is offered by the guides to the plate asthe forward end of the latter passes between said guides. To this end the guides 31 and 31* are arrangedto be moved laterally during their upward movement. As shown by Fig. 5, the guides 31 and 31 may move laterally in the recesses 30. Their. upper ends may move laterally by reason ofthe slotted link connection hereinbefore described. To permit lateral movement of. their/lower ends the guides 31 and 31 have their outerredges inclined, as shown at 4:7 and- 4E8, respectively. Rollers 49 mounted in slotted hold-,

1. The combination with a set of rolls and arollhousing, of a scraper device positioned in front of said housing,said scraper device comprising a scraper member, guides for said scraper member, and'means for moving said guides laterally of the path of travel of sheets as the latter enter-the rolls.
