MARTIN LOVEJOY RUFF, F JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA.
ATTACHMENT FOR HAIR CLIPPERS.
Application filed May 19,
The object of this invention is to provide for removing the hair cut by clippers of any standard type, as soon as the cutting operation is effected, a special form of nozzle being adapted for connection with the handle portion of the clippers and for connection with means for producing reduced air pressure.
A further object is to provide air suction at a point adjacent to the cutting blades or blade, so thatthe hair will be drawn outwardly before being cut, and especially fine hair will therefore be placed in proper condition for making a direct cut, and the hair when severed will be drawn into the nozzle and disposed of in any suitable manner.
A further object is to provide an attachment of the character indicated which may be installed for operation, using the same connections for producing reduced air pressure as are employed for driving the flexible shaft imparting movement to the blade.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of elements described, illustrated and claimed, it being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the claims without dcparting from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming part of this application,
Figure 1 shows the device in top plan as applied to a clipper, the latter being illustrated conventionally.
Figure 2 is a view in edge elevation.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of-the at,- tachment per se.
The clipper of standard. construction in- .clndes the handle portion and the blades 11 and 12. An adjusting device is shown at 13, and the screw member 14 is adapted topass thru plate member 15 of the attachment.
A flat tubular member 16, having plate 15 formed thereon or connected therewith is means extendin 1926. Serial No. 110,271.
provided with an end connection 17 for air tube 18 by means of which reduced air pressure or suction is afforded. A bracket surrounding portion 16 is designated 19, and includes the leg portions 20 and the lateral extensions 21, the latter passing under the end portion 22 of the clipper.
The nozzle portion of the attachment is designated 25 and provides an opening for the curved and broadened tubular portion 26 which is in communication with the fiat tube member 16, as illustrated in Figure 2. The device so constructed may be made and sold as an attachment for standard clippers, and as the device is attached and detached by the use of nut 13, it may be brought into service, or temporarily laid aside at a moments notice.
Having described the inventionwhat is claimed 1s 1. The combination with a pair of clip pers having cutting blades. and adjustim means, of an exhaust air duct connected with the handle portion of the clippers and curved over the ad'usting means to a point adjacent to the e ges of the blades and from the base of the duct, along the hand e portion, and engaged by the adjusting means, for retaining the forward end of the duct in operative position with reference to the blades.
2. An attachment for a pair of hair clippers comprising an exhaust duct having a curved nozzle adapted to extend in arch form over the cutting blades of the clippers a plate member connected with the nozzle projecting under the arched portion,
and ada ted for engagement by an element of the c 1p ers, and a leg member connected with the net and adapted to engage the underside of the handle portion of the clipers.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. I v
MARTIN LOVEJOY RUFF.
