HOOK BRACKET.

This invention relates to a hook engaging bracket, the general object of the invention being to provide a bracket placed on the root of a building and designed to receive and support a hook used in suspending a platform or ladder from the roof in painting or otherwise repairing a building.
Another object of the invention is to so term the device that it is attached to the root and forms part of the same so that it remains in position all the time.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement or the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
in describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of a building show ing the invention in use.

As shown in these views, the bracket comprises a head 1 and a stem 2, the stem be ing provided with nail receiving holes 8 and the head being of flat construction on one face with its other :tace formed with a curved wall 4 which is of the shape of half of a cup which forms with the fiat part of the head a recess 5. A hole 6 is provided in the wall a at its lower part for draining the recess and a curved lip 7 is formed on the outer part of the wall 4: which provides a groove 8 at the center of the wall at the top thereof. A number of these brackets are adapted to be fastened to the root A of a building by nails 9 or the like which pass through the holes 3 in the tongue or stem of each device and into portions of the root. The brackets are put in place when the root is being shingled and the stem or tongue 2 is covered by the shingles while the head is exposed. Thus the upper ends of hooks 10 which are used lo support the cables ll of a stage or platform, can be olaccd in the recesses 5 of the brackets and thus the hook will be firmly supported on the roof. Portions of the hook will enter the groove 8 so that slipping movement oi the hook on the wall t is prevented. The hole (5 will prevent water from rain and snow from nocumulating in the recesses It will thus be seen that I have provided permanent means for supporting a platform oil? a ladder from a roof by the hooks which are attached to said stage or ladder and as the brackets form a part oi? the roof they can be used over and over again as long as the roof lasts.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A hook supporting bracket for a roof. comprising a stem and a head, the stem having holes therein so that it can be nailed to the roof, a semi-cup shaped member connected with the head to term a recess for receiving the head of a hook, the upper edge of said member having a curved recess therein to receive aportion of the stem of the hook to prevent lateral movement thereof and a hole in the bottom of the member for draining the recess formed by said member.
