STOVE OR RANGE.
' Application flled October 11, 1926. Serial No. 140,880.
This invention pertains particularly to the oven construction in ranges, such as gas ranges.
The primary object is tov provide an im- 5 proved oven construction which is staunch,
gas range embod 'ng the invention; Fig. 2,
a broken vertica .sectional view, no an enlarged scale, taken as indicated at line 2, of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a broken horizontal section at one of the front corners of the oven, the section being taken as indicated at line 3 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4, a broken vertical section taken as indicated at line 4 of Fig. 2, this section being parallelwith the plane of the oven front; Fig. 5, a brokenpers ective view showing the front portion of t e top plate of the oven Fig. 6, a broken inner perspective view showing one of the corners of the front frame. of the oven-unit; Fig. 7, a sectional perspective'view looking into the inner, upper corner of the oven; and Fig. 8, a broken vertical sectional view, showing a rear'upper corner portion of the. oven.
In the illustration given, A. designates an oven-unit of a gas range; and B designates the cooking-top of the range.
The oven-unit is shown provided. with a' front frame -A- equipped with an upper door 85 A of a baking oven andwith a lower door A for the broiler oven. L a
The baking oven and broiler'oven are constructed as a unit. This unit comprises, in addition to the front frame A, sheet-metal side plates 1, a sheet-metal top plate 2, and
' flanges 1 and 2 with relation to the frame a sheet-metal rear wall- 3. Y
The side plates 1 are providednear their upper ends with inwardly offset margins 1, from the upper edges of which extendinturned flanges 1"; also, said plates are pro vided withinwardly ofiset margins 1 and inturned flanges 1, which extend parallel with the plane of the front frame A. The flanges 1 may be-omitted, if desired. The top plate 2 is rovided at its lateral edges with downwar ly turned flanges 2*, and at its rear edge with a downwardly turned flan' 2". As shown in Fig. 5, the top-plate 2 is offset downwardly at its front portion to provide a depressed margin 2,
' top plate.
from which depends an attaching flange 2 which is disposed parallel with the plane of the. front frame A of the oven-unit. The top member 2 .is notched at thecorners, as indicated at 2.
The front frame A of the oven-unit, which preferably is of cast metal, presents a front face 4 and a rearwardly extending miter flange 4*. One of the door-openings is indicated'at 4 and the metal of the frame is offset inwardly as indicated at 4, to provide'the seat for. the door.
' The wall 4 of the frame is provided at its inner side with tapped lugs 4, as many as may be desired, which are adapted to re.- c'eive cap screws '5 which connect the flanges 1 'ofthe side plates of the oven and flange. 2 of the'top plate of the oven with the ovenfront. The cap screws pass through slots, or large openings 6, with which the attaching flanges of the sheet-metal plates are provided. The frame A is shown provided, also, with lugs 7 which are of use in bolding the lining-plates of the oven in position. As will -'be noted from Figs. 2 and 7, the upper front corners of the side'pl'ates 1 are notched as indicated at 1 to provide the necessary clearance for the flange 2 of the In assemblin the members of the ovenunit, the inwar lyoflfset portions 1 of the "side plates and the downwardly offset'portion 2 of the to plate fit within the rearwardly turned an e 4 of the front frame A, so as to provi e flush joints; and the downturned lateral flaliiges of the top plate embrace the inwardly 0 set margin portions 7 1 of the side plates, as will be best under-. stood from Fig. 7. The tapped lugs 4 of the frame A space the inwardly turned A; and thecap screws 5 enter the tapped lugs and secure the parts together.
The front edge portions 2 of the lateral flanges 2 of the top plate abut a ainst the rear edge of the flange 4 of the frame A.
As shown in Fig. 8, the side plates 1 are provided at'their rear edges with inturned flanges 1, which embrace the rear plate 3 of. the oven. The lateral flanges 2'of the top plate 2 are secured, by'bolts 8, to the portions 1 of the side plates 1. As appears from Fig. 8, the oven is shown equipped at its rear portion with a standard-plate 9, connected by means of bolts 10, which-serve no plates, top plate, and
v one of the lateral lining plates 11 of the oven, supported by lugs 7. The upper portlion of the lining plate 11 appears again in fig. 4.
From the description given, it will be understood that the side plates and top plate of the oven are flush with the perimeter of the front frame A; also, that the inturned flanges of the side plates and top plate of the oven-unit are securely fastened to'the front frame bymeans of the concealed capbolts 5. I
The construction described is staunch and durable, and may be easily assembled. The oven-unit thus constructed presents a neat appearance, with flush joints.
The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding only, and no unnecessary limitations should be understood therefrom.
What I regard as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a range, an oven-unit comprising a frontframe provided with door-openings and having a rearwardly turned outer' flange, a top plate having a depressedfront marginal portion fitting within said flange and having a downwardly turned attaching flange, side plates having at their upper portions inwardly offset margins and having at their front portions inwardly offset mar-- gins provided with inturned attaching flanges, said top plate having dependin lateral flanges fitting over the inwardly 01f set upper margins of the side plates, and cap screws connecting said attaching-flanges to said front frame.
2. A range-oven comprising a front frame ting within the lateral flanges of said frame and provided with inturned attaching flanges, said side plates having also inwardly struck .upper margins provided with inturned flanges, a top plate having depending lateral flanges embracing the inwardly struck upper margins of the side plates and having a depressed front margin fitting within the top flange of said frame, and provided with a depending attaching flange, and cap screws securing said flange to said lugs.
3. A range-oven comprising a front frame having a rearwardly turned marginal flange and provided at its inner side with tapped lugs spaced from said flange, side platesflfi having inwardly struck front margins fitting within the lateral flanges of said frame and provided with inturned attaching flanges, said side plates having also inwardly struck upper margins provided with 70 inturned flanges, a top plate having depend ing lateral flanges embracing the inwardly struck upper margins of the side plates and having a depressed front margin fitting within the top flange of said frame and pro vided with a depending attaching flange, cap screws securing said attaching flanges to said lugs, lining-supporting lugs carried by said front frame, and lining plates engaging said lugs.
