Description

Apfi! 12. 1927.
A. E. H. WALLENBERG 'rmmsnme MACHINE Filed Sent; 15, 1923 Patented Apr. 12, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AXEL EDVARD HENRIKSON WALLENBERG, OF VAS'IERLOSA, SWEDEN.
THRASHING MACHINE.
Application filed September 15, 1923, Serial No. 662,812, and in Sweden June 21, 1922.
The present invention relates to an im provement in thrashing-machines of the type which are provided in well-known manner with a chaff blower for removing the chad formed during the thrashing. The invention consists principally in that the chaff blower is combined with a separate fan or blower for drawing off dust from one or more points in the thrashing-machine where dust is formed during the thrashing. By this arrangement the advantage is attained that the greater portion of the dust is removed and rendered harmless and that thus the air in the locality where the thrashing machine is stationed becomes considerably less dusty so that the work is very much facilitated for the labourers occupied with the thrashing.
In the accompanying drawing an embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example. Fig. 1 shows a side elevation of a thrashing-machine provided with an arrangement according to the invention partly in section, and Fig. 2 shows a section of the combined chaff blower and dust suction fan.
To one side of the thrashing-1nachine a casing 1 is secured in which there are provided two fan blowers 2 and 3, the former 2 of which is the usual chaff blower, and the other 3 is the dust suction fan. Both said fan blowers are mounted beside one another on a common shaft 1 which is journalled in one wall of the casing 1, and the end of which projecting outside the casing carries a pulley 5, which is driven by means of a belt 6 from some other suitable shaft in the thrashing-machine. The casing 1 is provided with separate inlets and outlets for the two fan blowers which latter are separated from one another by a disk 7 mounted on the shaft 4, so that the fan blowers will work as if they were located in separate casings. The blades of the fan blowers are secured to the disk '7 and also to two outer rings 8 so that the blowers obtain the required stability.
Referring to Fig. 2, 9 denotes the inlet to the chaff blower 2, and 10 denotes its outlet. 11 is the inlet to the fan blower 3, and 12 is its outlet. To the outlet 10 from the fan blower there is connected a pipe 18 which leads in the ordinary manner to a collecting place for the chaff, and to the outlet 12 from the dust suction fan blower 3 a pipe 11 is connected which may for instance project up through the roof of the barn and thus conducts the dust out into the open. In the embodiment illustrated the inlet 11 is formed in such manner that it partly surrounds the pulley 5, for the purpose that said inlet shall project as little as possible from the casing 1. The said inlet communicates through a duct 15 with a box or chamber 16 in which a partial vacuum will thus be produced by the suction from the fan 3. The said box 16 communicates through a pipe 17 having a portion 17 extending transversely to the machine and provided with openings 17 with a suction box 18 above the outlet 19 for the straw, said suction box 18 being open towards said inlet 19 and provided wih ribs 20 which serve to prevent the straw from being drawn into said suction box 18 along with the dust which is drawn into said box 18 and further through the pipe 17 into the box 16 and through the duct 15 to the fan 3. The box or chamber 16 further communicates through a pipe 21 with the interior of the thrashing-machine, so that the dust within the machine is sucked out. The box or chamber 16 is further connected to a pipe 22 extending crosswise to the machine near the feed opening of the same and provided with apertures 22, which pipe serves to draw off the dust which the thrashing drum tends to force out at this place. The box or chamber 16 may also be in communication through pipes with the smutter and other points of the machine where dust is formed during the thrashing.
I claim:
1. In a thrashing machine, the combination with a dust suction fan blower, of suction conduits leading from said blower to the feed opening, the straw outlet and the interior of the machine, and a chaff blower coaxially mounted with reference to said other blower and being separated therefrom and from said suction conduits.
2. In a thrashing-machine, the combination of a casing, a rotatable shaft in said casing, a disk within said casing secured to said shaft and rotatable therewith, a chaff blower secured to and supported on one'side of said disk within said casing, a dust suction fan blower secured to and supported on the other side of said disk within said casing. and separate inlets and outlets in said casing to each of said blowers.
