ATTORNEY ITNES:
Patented Mar. 22 1927..
UNITED STATES ALBA O. BOOTH, OF BURLINGTON, VERMONT ASSIGNOR 0F ONE FOURTH T0 F M. 00011, 01 BURLINGTON, VERMONT.
PATENT oFFIcai BOTTLE GAP.
Application filed January 16, 1926. Serial No. 81,?89.
This invention relates to improvements in bottle closures, with which a crimped cap is usually employed, theinvention having for its object, the provision of a structure to per-' is clamped a disk of suitable material to per- 10 mit of itsbeing severed or otherwise destroyed, to remove that portion of the disk lying between the openings of the cap and washer, with a view of providing an unobstructed passage for the discharge of the contents of the bottle, the openings in the cap and washer being of substantially'the same'diameteras the interior diameter of the neck of the bottle for this purpose.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully. described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing: 7
Figure 1 is a top plan view of abottle showqng my present invention applied there to. t
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Figure 1. a
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corres onding parts, the reference character 10 in lcates a bottle. having a neck 11 with the conventional form of bead /12 extending around the peripherythereof, all of the above being of the usual and well known construction and forming no partof the p'esent application for Letters Patent but ing merely shown for purposes of. illustration in bringing forward the-novel advantages of the above entitled invention.
In carrying out my invention I provide the conventional form of bottle cap 113 ecured in the usual manner to the bead '12 provided upon the'neck. Said cap. in addition includes an opening 1: registering with the bore or passagrlasfivay 111th? neck 11 of the bottle 10. A 16 is positioned upon the under side of the bottle cap 13 and exposed to the opening 14 in the cap and havmg its under side and marginal edges restannnnrcx 'ing upon the'upper side of an annular packing ring in the form of a cork gasket 15 which engages the periphery ofthe bottle neck 11. Said disk 16 is formed of some de structible material, and in this instance of celluloid, wherebythe latter may be readily and easily punched or broken in withdrawmg or extracting the contents of the bottle description and accompanying drawing, that thls invention provides an exceedingly use fill and advantageous bottle cap which ow-' 4 mg to the construction thereof may be. manufactured at a very low cost and consequently be used upon all-types and forms of bot- It will thus be noted from the foregoingties. The disk is interposed to permit de' str'uction, being preferably formed of celluloid, whereby any suitable instrument utili'zed in either punching or. cutting out the disk consequently obviates the necessity of using a bottle opener which usually chips the head 12 formed upon-the neck 11 of the bottle 10 much to the discomfort of the user. The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form. proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope'of the ap-. pended claim,
described my invention what iselaimed is A bottle closure comprising a washer Having adapted to repose upon the mouth of the bottle and having a central openin a crimped cap adapted'to embrace the neo of the bottle and having a central opening ooextensive with the opening in said washer,
a disk of readilydestruotible material interpo'sed between the cap and washer and clamped therebetween, and adapted to have its entire area equivalent to the size ofthe opening in the cap to be removed toprovide w an unobstructed passage for the contents of the bottle, and said openings in the cap and washer having diameters equal to the inte-- rior diameter of the neck of the bottle.
