1 Claim. (CI. 30-15) This invention relates to a device for cutting the seals of liquor or wine bottles to facilitate the opening of such bottles.
An important object of the invention is to provide an opener of this character embodying a yieldable split ring adapted to be pressed over the seal of a bottle, the split ring having a seal cutting blade adapted to move through the seal cutting the seal as the split ring is rotated permitting the cap to be removed from the bottle.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character constructed of plastic material of a size to receive a name or advertising material advertising the goods with which the opener may be used.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure l is a fragmental elevational view illustrating a seal cutter constructed in accordance with the invention, as positioned for cutting the seal of the bottle.
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a view illustrating the closure of the bottle as removed with the seal cutter in place thereon.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of one form of seal cutter.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of seal cutter.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference char acter 5 indicates a conventional screw cap of a liquor or wine bottle, and the reference character 6 indicates the usual seal which is positioned over the cap and a portion of the neck 7 of the bottle sealing the cap in position.
The reference character 8 indicates the seal cutter forming the subject matter of the present invention, and as shown, the seal cutter in its preferred form is constructed of a length of plastic material formed into a yieldable, split ring indicated by the reference character 9. The
In the form of the invention as shown by Figure 5 of the drawing, the split ring which is indicated by the reference character 11 is formed of a length of yieldable wire material with one end formed into a loop 12. The cutting blade indicated at 13 is formed on the loop 12 and extends inwardly so that when the split ring is positioned over a cap to cut the seal, the blade 13 will fall directly opposite to the point of contact between the cap and mouth of the bottle, so that when the device is rotated, the blade 13 will sever the seal and permit the cap to be readily removed.
From the foregoing it is believed that the construction and operation of the cutter will be obvious, and that a further description and disclosure of the device is unnecessary.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A bottle closure seal cutter comprising a split yieldable ring member of a diameter to substantially encircle the mouth of a bottle and adapted to be fitted around the seal of a bottle, a blade extending inwardly from said 7 ring member adjacent to one end thereof, said blade References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS 2,271,308 Ross Ian. 27, 1942 2,276,268 Donlon Mar. 17, 1942 2,305,642 Sorenson Dec. 22, 1942
