'Lariat TnxAs, AND CHARLES G. riiaivriaairi,'or'v or ONE-THIRD To J. A. LOGAN, or HARRIS OIL vAronrziiR AND BURNER.
YApplication ledV February onrelates to new and useful improvements in an oil vaporizer and burner.V
One object of device yof the the inventionis to provide a character described' whereby 5 crude oil may be thoroughly broken upV and vaporize'd, and rendered completely combus- Another object of the invention isto provide a device of the character described by the use of which impure crude oil, that is crude oil which is mixed with water, sediment and oth oughly broken the'oil will may be 'thor-4 er impurities,
to the end that up and treated,
readily separate from the water and foreign matterl therein.
1A further feature of the inventionresidesA in the provisio describe-d 'A emb device of the characterl n of a a novel constructionodying whereby the feed of the oil, through the device may be easily regulated.
A still further featurer of the device resides in the provision of means for preheating the oil as well as for mixing the same with steam,
' air, or gas, in the process ofvaporization.
With the above and other objects in view f Ythis invention tain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts,
' which is given rated in the accompanying drawings,
has particular relation to ceran example of in this specification and illuswhere- Figure 1 shows a longitudinalV sectional view of the device.
Figure 2 shows a cross sectional view taken on the line 2*-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 shows a cross sectional view taken on the line 3 Figure 4 shows a fragmentary longitudi-v 3 of Figure 1.
' nal sectional view of the device showing another type of controlling means for regulating the feed, or flow vice, and
Figure 5 thereof, taken of oil, through the deshows a .cross sectional view on the line 5-45 of Figure 4.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures,
the numeral 1 designates an outer tubular jacket whose free end has the nozzle 2 threaded thereon. This nozzle has a central passageway 3, the
flared and whose inner rethrough, whose outer end is end has an inwardly 4. The jacket is anchored to ich is of the general form ofk a 12,y 192e. vserial Nasr/,744. j
connection, saidj acket preferably having a threaded connection with sai'd'body. l
An oil line 6 is connected intothe body 5 and is preferablyformed with an enlarged.l
heating chamber 7. There is a pressure fluid' nozzle 8 within the jacket y1 which is held concentrically therein by the'spacer lugs 9 on the inside of said jacket. The nozzle 8 has a central axial, steam'. duct; 10. therethroughv into the inner endv of which the steampipef 11 is threaded and/threaded onto the inner end of the nozzle 8 there is an air or gas lineV 11 and the airror gas pipeY steam pipe is connected with a steam line 16 which is formed into a coil 17 in the chamber 7 and is controlled by the hand operable sliut OH valve 18. j
There is a suitable connecting nipple, as 19, Figure 1,01' 19', Figure 4', connected into the body 5. The pipes 11 and 12 have a fixed 4relation with Vthe nipple 19 and with the body 5, as illustrated in Figure 1, butare adjustable through the nipple 19 and body 5, as illustrated in Figure 4.
There is a gas or air line 2O connected into the chamber 15, through the nipple 19, or 19', and this line 2O has two branches 21, 21, one for air and the other for gas.
Tn the form shown in Figure 1 the jacket 1 has a spur gear 22iixed thereon and in mesh with a pinion 23 which is fixed on an adjusting or controlling shaft 24. This shaft is mounted to rotate in the. bearings 25 formed on the body 5 and has a hand grip 26 by means of which it may be turned. By the manipulation of the shaft 24 the jacket 1 may be rotated and connection with the body 5, so as to adjust the seat 4 relative to the cooperating end of the nozzle 8. This seat 4 may thus be entirely closed to shutoff the flow of oil through the'passageway 3, or the seat 4 maybe partly or entirely opened.
gravity, intoY the chamber 13 and steain 1s` I neaneoe it' the nozzle 8; may be adjusted relative to the seat 4 and'said seat closed or opened in the manner and for the purposeabove'explained.'
The oil may be delivered. lfiypressure or disehlarged, finden' pressure, throughthe pipe 11 and Willi eat'ch. upa and@ mingle With and. vaporize-saidloil Ain, orgue, may be deliveiie'd.' under. pressure,v through the chainlier 15 .andgduct's 155' and will. also mingle with andi furet/her vaporize4 the oil;
Fori cleansing' purposes: there is a nor.-
inall-ly olesedl connecting; nipple 28 connected into" the' eil: chamber 13.V A2 iuidl pressure line inaiyf loe' connected onto.l this'-v nipple', the; device becomes clogged, and the offending; eloggingIV materiali thereby' dislodged;
They movable parts: have suitable packing interposed: between them; sothat all joints Will` bei fluid; tight.. Y
The'` 'device hrerein described may: be usedl asI anI oil hunner' and Wirll be found to be very efficienti for the reason' thatv it Willi thoroughly vaporize the oil and' mix4 it with: steam and air. It Willi also prove veiicient ini the treatment otiinpure crude oilz For such purpose the oil may be delivered through it into a vat or tank, theprocess of vaporizati'on described will so-bireal. up the oil that the Water and impurities Will readily settle and the pure oil WillY collect on top and can be readily drawn O'j.
What We claim is Y Y A device of the character described in- .oludingfa tubular jacket, a discharge nozzlo carried by one end thereof` and a T connection attachedto the other end thereof, an oil line entering said T connection., a pressure fluid:y nozzle Within, Sfaid jacket. provided. with an axiail steam; duet, a seain. pipe one endf ot" which is. threadfd into said duch, an air.y pipe: surmunding`v and-` spaccd tromsaidl stean pip.c,. one; endiofA which is anehoreditosaid? pressune tl'ui-,d-:nozzie, said last mentioned nozzle having duets for th epassa ge oi. air deliver@ d? throughi said air pipe, ai connecting nipple attached to said; i' connection: andV aligned with: said; jacket, saidI air and; stearn pipes, being. adjustable relative to, Said connecting; nipple, an. adjusting cap threaded` on, tofsaidi nipple and having. a sWiveli-'ngf hutY operative conL nection With said steam pipe and themanipulation of which said ain and steam@ pipes andy said pressure fluid nozzle` may be' ad.Y justedy relative to. said discharge nozzle;v
In testimony whereof we have signedl our, naines to this specification.
