IMPROVEMENT IN SPICE-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,130, dated Apiil 13, 1875; application filed February 26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A, WIOKS, of the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Spice-Boxes, of which the following is a specification The invention consists in certain improvements in the construction of the lids of spiceboxes, as hereinafter shown and described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a top view of a disconnected portion of the lid. Fig. 2 is a top view of another detached portion thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-section showing the parts connected in their proper relation.
A is the part of the lid attached to the box. The part A is perforated and slotted, as shown, the slots being marked a. The plate B, which is stamped out of waste tin, (usually the pieces from the lids of oyster and fruit cans.) is also perforated the holes therein corresponding in position with the holes in the lid A, but being somewhat smaller. The plate B is also out, as shown at the four points I), the portions between the cnts being made, when turned down, to enter the slots to in A and thus connect the two parts of the lid. The length of the slots is such as to admit of a sliding movement of the plate B, which discloses, when the spice is to be used, the perforations in A. The plate B is stamped with ridges c, which serve to allow the finger or thumb a rest in sliding the plate.
The lid herein described is made at a great saving in material, and is convenient in use.
I claim- The perforated top B, having the fingerridges 0, and its sides turned down between the cut points I), as shown in combination with the perforated box-top A, having the slots at, admitting of the entrance and sliding movement of the turned-down parts of the top B, substantially as specified.
