Description
15 1927. March M. B. HOUSTON ENVELOPE SHIELD FOR CRIB BEDS Filed Nov. 27. 1925 Patented Mar. 15, 1927.
UNlTE STATES MADELINE B. HOUSTON, OF EVANSTON, ILLINOIS.
. ENVELOPE SHIELD FOR CRIB BEDS.
Application filed November My invention relates to envelope shields for crib beds, and the object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive and portable device of this character adapted for applylng to a crib and thereby protect a child occupying the crib bed from drafts and currents of air.
A further object of the invention is to provide an envelope shield having facilit es for applying the same to cribs having facilities for suspending the bed therein at various levels.
A further object of the invention is to provide the envelope shield with overhanging flaps having pockets for carrying articles essentially necessary for the comfort of a child occupying the bed.
I attain these objects and other advantages by the parts and structure illustrated 1n the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of an open childs crib and to which the invention is applied, parts of the customary screen filling being omitted.
Figure 2 is a view of the foot end of the crib, and showing the overlapping portions of the side flaps, the screen panels being omitted.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal section of the crib with shield, and. showing the childs bed suspended in the crib, the screen panels being omitted.
Figure 4 is a detail of one corner of the bag portion of the shield, and showing the holes therein provided for the passage of the means for fastening the bed to the crib frame and- Figure 5 is a corner member of the crib frame and showing the hooks thereon for suspending the bed in the crib.
Similar numerals of reference refer to cor responding parts throughout the several views,
The numeral 1 designates an open type childs crib provided with the customary screen filling 2. The envelope shield 3 is made of any suitable flexible material, preferably of woven cotton, wool, or silk goods, and sewed and formed to shape to conform. to the shape and form of the crib. The shield consists of a rectangular bag portion 4 adapted to hang loosely into the crib, so that the ends and sides of the bag will be disposed in close relation to the inner sides and ends of the crib. On the upper edges of the bag portion are sewed end flaps or 27, 1925. Serial No. 71,566.
The envelope shield is applied to the crib by first removing therefrom the crib bed and then placing the bag portion of the shield into the crib with the flaps 5 and 6 overhanging the ends and sides of the same, thus bringing the strip 10 to bear on the upper rails of the crib frame. Then the overlapping portions 7 are placed over the end flaps and secured thereto by means of the buttons 8 engaging the snaps 9. The
crib bed is then suspended in the crib and inside the bag portion 4 of the shield at any desired level by passing the members 13 through the holes 11 in the corners of the bag and connecting the same to the hooks 15, on the corner pieces 16 of the frame of the crib. In the pockets 18 may be stored articles used with the crib. When the shield is not used for the protection of the child in the crib, the same may be packed and stored in a compact and convenient package. The shield may be made of figured goods,
in which case it is both ornamental and useful.
Having described my invention what I claim is 1. In an envelope shield for crib beds, the combination with a crib frame, of a box shaped bag made of suitable flexible ma terial disposed Within the crib and having its walls in close relation to the inner sides of the crib, a flexible strip united with the upper edges of said bag and adapted to lie upon the upper edges of the crib frame, individual flexible flaps united with said strip and depending therefrom and partially covering the outer sides and ends of the crib, the side flaps being extended lengthwise to provide overlapping end portions adapted to overlap the end flaps, and fastening de vices mounted on the end flaps and the overlapping portions of the side flaps adapted to hold the shield in close relation to the crib.
2. In an envelope shield for crib beds, the combination with a crib having a bed, of a box shaped bag made of suitable flexible material disposed'within the crib and having its walls in close relation to the inner sides of the crib, a flexible strip united with the upper edges of the bag and adapted to lie upon the upper edges of the crib frame, in-
dividual flexible flaps united with said strip and depending therefrom and partially covering the outer sides and ends of the crib, the side flaps being extended lengthwise to provide overlapping end portions adapted to overlap theend flaps, fastening devices mounted on the end flaps and the overlapping'portions of the side flaps adapted to hold the shield in close relation to the crib, and a plurality of holes apertured in the cornersof the bag for the passage of bed suspender members to a connection with the corners of the crib frame.
In an envelope shield for crib beds, the combination with the crib having a bed, of a box shapedbag made of suitable flexible material disposed Within the crib and having its walls in close relation to the inner sides of the crib, a flexible strip united'with the upper edges of the bag and adapted to lie upon the upper edges of the crib frame, individual flexible flaps united with said strip and depending therefrom and partially covering the outer sides and ends of the crib, the side flaps being extended lengthwise to provide overlapping end portions adapted to overlap the end flaps, fastening devices mounted on the end flaps and the overlapping portions of the side flaps adapted to hold the shield in close relation to the crib, a plurality of holes apertur'ed in the corners of said bag for the passage of bed suspender members to a connection with the corners of the crib frame, and a flap united with the foot end of the shield and adapted to cover a part of the mouth of the bag.
