Description
Get. 21, 1952 G. A. YANcoFsKl WATERPROOF DRAIN PAD FOR CHILDRENS CRIBS Filed Sept. 28, 1950 Patented Oct. Z1, 1952 WATERPROOF DRAIN PAD FOR CHILDRENS CRIBS Genevieve A. Yancofski, College Point, N. Y., as-
signor to Archie H. Hubert, College Point, l
Application September 28, 1950, Serial No. 187,185
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a waterproof drain pad for childrens cribs.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a drain pad for childrens cribs wherein the wetness will be absorbed by the pad and wherein the covering therefor is waterproof on its supporting side and wherein the pad is held against displacement when placed within the covering by a folded over flange of the bottom piece which will prevent the downward iiow of moisture from the pad.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a waterproof drain pad for cribs wherein the wetness is immediately passed through holes in the top of the covering and adsorbed by the pad and the bottom piece is waterproof to prevent any leakage therethrough onto the bed covering and whereby to eliminate the heavy dressing of the baby, the use of hot rubber pads or sheets and thereby prevents burning or chafing of the baby as the water is removed from the baby and is sealed off, the pad being capable of holding the entire excretions or water for a long period of time.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a drain pad for cribs which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, has a minimum number of parts, waterproof, easy to wash and clean and eicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective View of a crib with the pad embodying the features of the present invention disposed thereupon.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the pad and its covering extending thereover.
Fig. 3 is a collective view of the pad and the covering with the pad about to be disposed under the covering.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary corner sectional view at the open end of the covering.
Referring now to the figures, represents a crib having the usual mattress II and side rails I2. A drain pad assembly I3 is disposed on the mattress and the baby is allowed to lie upon this pad assembly. The pad assembly is formed of a bottom piece I4 of waterproof material and a perforated top piece I5 of similar material having perforations I6 through which the Wetness may pass. About three sides of the pieces I4 and I5 is binding tape I1 stitched, as indicated, to hold the pieces together.
On the remaining side of the perforated top piece is a binding strip or hem I8 which is stitched thereto. Ther piece I4 is folded in, as
. the stitching which secures the binding strips Il.
A pad 2| of absorbent material is formed to fit between the pieces I4 and I5 and is slidable through pocket opening 22 over the folded in portion I9 of the bottom piece I4. y
The drain pad is made of plastic or waterproof material which is perforated on one side and is waterproof on the other with a closure flap, as shown at I9, and there is little chance of the mattress becoming wet. The absorbing pad 2I is easily removable. These pads may be used as a bed or carriage covering which is placed between the baby and the mattress. When water is passed by the baby, the water is immediately absorbed through the drain holes or perforations I6 in the top piece I5 and passes into the absorbing pad and is sealed in by the bottom piece so that it will not engage the mattress.
The pad can be made of different sizes large enough to cover the full bed or carriage.
It will be further noted that the pocket opening 22 permits the circulation of air therein to the perforations IE, as result causing the pad 2l to be air-conditioned.
The pad eliminates heavy dressing of the baby, the use of hot rubber pads or sheets, prevents the baby from burning or chang as the pool of water is readily removed from the baby and is sealed 01T and with the covering and pad being made of cool material, the baby is afforded a more comfortable sleeping condition. The absorbing pad can be removed and washed and replaced by a dry one.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as dened by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A drain pad assembly comprising a covering formed of a perforated top piece and a closed bottom piece, said pieces being secured together except upon one side thereof whereby to provide for a pocket opening, said bottom piece having a closure iiap folded into the pocket opening and an absorbent pad disposed between the pieces and under the closure flap, and binding tape extending around the sides of the pieces and over the ends of the closure iiap to secure the pieces and the latter together.
