OIL HOLDER.
Application filed July 27, 1925. Serial No. 46,41}.
This invention relates to improvements in dispensing means to be applied upon the quart size Ball and Mason fruit jars which in this instance are to be filled with lubricating oil in order that the said oil may be readily and easily dispensed from the said jar.
Another object 01" my invention is the provision of. a handle attached to the jar and jar cap while the cap further includes a spout connected therewith and including a closure cap upon its outer end operated by an operating rod arranged upon the handle portion in order that the said closure cap may be readily and easily opened when the said jar is inverted and the spout inserted within the breather cap opening provided in the motor vehicle crank case, not shown.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construc tion, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim;

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts the reference character indicates either the pint or quart size of the well known Ball or 'Mason fruit jars having the usual and conventional form of jar top 11 arranged upon its neck; all of the above is of the usual and well known eonstruetion and forms no part of the present application. for Letters-Patent but is merely shown for purposes of illustration in bringing forward the novel advantages of the aboveentitled invention. The invention residing in the provision of a tube 12 having its lower end communieating with the upper side and within the upper side of the ar top 11 and within the jar 10 and set at an inclination thereto, as clearly'illustrated In Figure 1 of the drawing, which includes upon its outer end and adjacent the rearward side thereof, a pair of spacedparallel apertured ears 13 having a pin 14 extending therethrough. and supporting an car 15 carried hiiilpon the inner side of the closure cap 16 w e a spring 17 Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical section of my invention when so applied to a-Ball encircles aportion of the pin 14 and en-- gages the upper side of the car 15 whereby the said cap 16 will be normally held in a closed position. In order to provide holding or supporting means for the jar 10 in the form of a handle I provide ravelings of wire terminating in loops 19 and 20 upon their upper and lower ends the upper loop is received within the depressed portions formed bythe thread upon the inner side of the jar top 11 while the lower loop 20 is sliding y received uponthe lower por-' tion of the jar 10.
For facilitating the opening and closing of the closure cap 16 included upon the outer free end of the spout 12, I provide a clamp 21 arranged upon the wire ravelings and to which a bell crank lever 22 is pivotally supported thereon and which terminates at its outer end in a disk 23 adapted to be engaged by the thumb of the user when grasping the wire ravelings forming the handle. A rod 24: has its ends pivotally secured to the in.- ner free end of the bell crank lever 22. and its upper end correspondingly secured within an aperture 25 provided upon one side of the closure cap 16.
In the mode of operation of the present invention it is clearly apparent and manifestthat the jar top- 11 and handle formed by the wire ravelings 18 may be unscrewed as a unit from the jar 10 when refilling the same. When it is desirous to add to the oil already contained within the crank case or to entirely replenish the supply therein when draining-the old oil, and owing to the fact that the breather caps not 7 shown, upon varioustypes of automobiles are frequently inaccessible owing to the mountings of distributor heads, throttle rods and the like which interfere with the filling of the crank case at this point, namely the breather cap, I have provided this novel form of dispensing apparatus which, owing to the inclina tion of the spout 12 upon the jar top 11, may be readily and easily inserted within a breather cap and centrally therein while the closure cap 16, included upon the outer free end of the said spout or tube 12, may be readily and easily opened and closed by the operators thumb when engaging the disk 23-included upon the outer-free end of the bell' crank lever 22.
It is further to be noted that owing to the simplicity of construction and arrangement of parts thereof that the same may be manufactured in great numbers and consequently sold at a very nominal cost owing to the fact that no special form of container is sold with the device in so far as the said Mason or Ball type of fruit jars are obtainable in every jurisdiction;
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what is claimed 1s In a dispensing device for jars, the comb nation with a ar havingan externally threaded mouth and provided with a cap having a threaded engagement with said mouth, of a handle formed of twisted wire to provide a closed ring at one end engagin around the threaded wall of the jar cap an a ring at its other end rotatably engaging around the body of the jar, a spout extending from the jar cap, a spring actuatedclosure for the outlet end of the spout, a hell 2 crank actuator operatively supported upon the handle remote from the closure and a rod connecting the closure and bell crank actuator, whereby pressure upon the bell crank actuator will open the closure.
