This invention relates, generally, to locks; and, the present invention has reference, more particularly, to improvements in bag-V locks employedv with the usual complemental frame-members or sections of a bag frame, with a view of providing, primarily, a lock-construction the mechanism of which is to be operated byV akey, but in which the push-member of the lock is provided with means which permits of the mechanism to be operated only by a certain key.
In other words, while the construction and the arrangement of the parts of the mechanism of the lock is the same in all locks, the means within the pushunember which permits the turning of the key, varies with the several locks, so that different keys are necessary with different locks.
This invention, therefore, has for its principal object to provide the push-members of the usual bag-locks, with simply constructed means within the push-member of the lock, which will allow of a cert-ain key turning within said member, but will remain inoperative when another key is inserted.

Vithin the said lock-casing is the usual key-operated locking-mechanism comprising the sliding bolt or latch-plate 15, and the push-lug-operated bridge-member 16 which is provided with upwardly extending lugs 17 adapted to be brought into retaining engageinent with the usual hasp-lugs 18, as indicated in said Figure 2, when said lugs 18 enter the openings 6. The above-mentioned push-member consists, essentially, cfa main cast-metal bodymember 22, preferably ot rectangular configuration, as indicated in the several figures of the drawings, `the said body-member at its lower part being provided with an oit-set portion 23, usually formed with a cut-out portion or-recess, as 24. Extending frein said oit-setportion 23 are posts'25pthe endportions 2G of which are fitted into suitable perforations 27 in the bridge-member 16, and are riveted over or upset against the 'lower face of the bridge-member for positively securing the push-member upon said bridge-member. The said body-member 22 is also forined with a cent-ralrand vertically disposed central bore, as 28, the upper open portion of which is marginally bounded by an annular rib 29, la portion of which is cut laway or slotted, as at 30. The said vkey-'barrel is `furthermore longitudinally slotted, as at 37, the slot passing through the body ot said barrel, andfalso throughfthe parts 36, 35, 3% and 32 of the saine, as indicated in said Figure 10. The key used with the said key-barrel is indicated by the reference-character and is oi' the flat style to permit ot' its insertion in the slot- 37, and the parts of the key tor actuating the lock-mechanism are of lthe usual shapes. in order, however, to enable the key to be used with the push-member shown in Figures 3 and 5 of the drawings, the key i1 is provided in its edge a2 with a cut-away or recessed portion 43', corresponding to the location orI the stop-pin 39l so as to permit the turning ot the key past the :inner lend-portion oil' the stop-pin terminating and located in the space 40, duringthe lock-V ing and unlocking` operations of the key, as will be fully understood from an inspection of said Figures 3 and 5.
.Referring now to Figures 6 and 'Tof the drawings, it will be seen, Athat the stop-pins 39 inay'be rvariously locatedin the body ot the push-member, and that different keys, as la and 45,supplied with correspondingly located recess i6 and 17, niay be provided, so that the key al, can only be used with'the push-member,shown in Figure 5, the key 44 only with the push-member shown in Figure G, andthe key e5 only with the pushinernber shown in Figure Of course, it will be` understood, that other combinations of the pins 39 and .the recessed portions of the keys niay be made, and that it desired, the push-members may be provided witha plurality: ofpins 39, the keys being provided with a .corresponding nuinbeiof such variously located recesses in the edgesy of the respective keys.
As has been previously stated the kpushnieinber is inade from cast-metal, or a solid block of metal, with Vthe bore thereofbeing produced by drilling,inay.be,used, the pur- :mam
pose being to do away with the usual form of hollow sheet-metal push-member which is objectionable in that it lacks strength, is unfinished in appearance, and is often left` with objectionable sha-rp marginal edges, which with const-ant use open up, and thereby leave unsightly seams.
Of course, I am aware, that other changes may be ,made in the general arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the said parts, without departing from the scope of the present invention as set 'forth in the foregoing specification, and as defined in the clauses of the claim which are appended thereto. Hence, I do not limit my present invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts as described in the said specilication, nor do I confine myself to the` eX- act details oi the construction of the said parts, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
I claim l. A bag-lock comprising a casing, a depressible hasp-engaging means within said casing, an upwardly and exteriorly projecting push-member secured to said hasp-engaging means, leyactuated means movable to obstruct or release said hasp-engaging means for operation, said push-member having a. vertical bore, a. key-receiving barrel rotatable in said bore having a longitudinal key-slot open along one side thereof, said barrel having at its lower extremity a reduced axial extension journaled in said haspengaging means, said barrel having intel1` mediate its ends a reduced portion providing an annular space between the same and the Walls of said bore and a stoppin iixed in said puslrmember togproject into said annular space in predetermined position `to match with a selectively located clearance notch of a proper key inserted in said barrel.

A bag-lock comprising a casing adapted to be attached to a bag-frame, a lock-mechanism Within said casing, a spring-supported hasp-engaging bridge-member cooperating with said lock-mechanism, a push-member 'for actuating said bridge-member, said pushmember having an axial cylindrical bore, a key-receiving barrel rotatable in said bore and provided with a longitudinal open l{ey slot, said barrel having a portion at its lower end journaled in said bridge-member, means at the upper end of said push-member to re tain said barrel against longitudinal displacement from said bore, said barrel having a reduced portion providing an annular space between the same and the walls of said bore, and a stop-,pin lixed in said push-member to project into said annular space in predetermined position to match a. selectively located clearance notch of a proper key inserted in said barrel.
