MYERS C. FISHER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAS-REGULATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,945, dated April 13, 1875; application filed March 10, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYERs O. FISHER, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement-in Gas Economizer and Filterer, of which the following is a specilication:
My invention consists of a light wire spiral, wrapped or furnished with raw cotton, wool, sponge, or any porous material, and inserted inside the gas-pipe at any convenient point from the meter, thereby retarding the flow of gas to the burners, and at the same time filtering it of any impurities, thus increasing the brilliancy of the light with a reduced quantity of gas.
Figs. 1 and 2 show sections of a gas-pipe, separated at the joint for the introduction of my invention. Fig. 2 also shows the wire spiral with its wrapping of cotton, wool, sponge, or other porous material.
D, Fig. 2, is a piece of light iron wire, one end, E, of which is formed into a ring, at right angles with its axis, which bears directly against the end of the pipe B, and prevents the spiral, with its wrapping, from being forced out of position by the pressure of gas. The opposite extremity is returned spirally, and is looped over the straight portion of the wire 1), as shown at O O, permitting it to be contracted or expanded as occasions require. The spiral O, which is smaller than the inside diameter of the pipe, is wrapped with raw cotton F, wool, or other porous material, and in this condition is inserted into the pipe, filling it with ease, sufliciently to check or retard the flow of gas about onethird of its force.
What I claim as my invention is- The wire D, with its circular end E and spiral O, the said spiral being wrapped with raw cotton, wool, or other porous material, in combination with a section of gas-pipe, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
MYERS O. FISHER.
