With the above and other objects in view,

the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to behereinafterwmore fully described, illustrated in the'accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a mop handle having a ferrule 11 secured to its forward end and terminating in a rectangular shaped forward end portion 12 as illustrated in Figure 6 of the drawings and adapted to receive within its respective corners and against the outer sides and forward end of the mop handle 10 the spaced parallel inwardly extending end portions 13 of companion frames 14 defining transversely disposed elongated looped portions within the outer ends and in general resembling a substantial T-shape. Such frames being formed of twisted lengths of wire, the purpose of such construction being readily apparent.

The adjustable clamping means constituting a relatively flat substantially T-shaped plate 16 providing oppositely and obliquely disposed cutout portions 17 upon its forward edge and adjacent its opposite ends and adapted for longitudinal sliding movement between-the corresponding inner sides of the companion frames 14, while its vertical leg providing spaced parallel upwardly extending guide plates 18 upon its opposite side edges which extend appreciable distances above and below the upper and lower sides thereof for guiding the said plate 16 between the corresponding inner sides of the companion frames "14 and for engagement with the outer sides of the inwardly extending end portions 18 thereof. The outer side guide plates 18 defining concaved portions- 19 in providing a convenient gripping means for facilitating a slidingmovement to the relatively flat substantially T-shaped looking plate 16. The inner end of the plate 16 has an opening 20 provided therein,within which a bolt suchas indicated at 21.eX- tends therethroughand in like manner through registering openings 22 provided centrally within companion locking ,plates 23 arranged uponthe upper and lower sides 7 of the plate 16 and defining and providing enlarged portions 24 extending longitudinally thereof upon their inner sides whereby the'inwardlyextending end portions '13 of the companion frames 114may :be also held inspaced parallel relationship therebetween.

The opposite end of the bolt 21 having a wing nut 25 threaded thereon whereby relative movement may be imparted'to the companion locking plates 23 between the guide plates 18 and against the outer sides of the inwardly extending end portions 13 of the companion frames 14.

In the use and operation of the present invention, it is clearly apparent and manifest that the substantially T-shaped plate 16 when arranged in the position as clearly illustrated in Figure 4 of the drawings will permit the insertion of a mop rag or squeegee such as indicated at 26 to be inserted within the elongated looped portions 15 defined in the transversely disposed end portions of the substantially T-shaped companion frames 14 and upon an outward sliding movement of the relatively flat substantially T-shaped locking plate 16 between the corresponding inner sides of the companion frames 14 and in their respective positions as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the draW ing will force an appreciable portion of the mop rag 26 outwardly and between the frames 14 and upon tightening the nut 25 upon the free end of the bolt 21 will rigidly tension the outer ends of the frames 14 downwardly and inwardly upon the mop rag 26 and against the head of the substantially T-shaped locking plate 16 whereby such rag will be held against accidental displacement during the process of mopping. The configuration of the companion frames 14, being formed from twisted lengths of suitable wire offering and presenting an irregular surface to the mop rag 26 in order that the latter when dampened may not slide between the inner gripping sides.

The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as proper- 1y fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A mop of the character described comprising a handle, a ferrule carried upon the forward end thereof, companion frames fitted upon the handle within the ferrule, a clamping plate slidably positioned between the frames, and interconnected locking plates carried upon the frames for holding the clamping plate at a desired position between the frames.

A mop of the character described comprising a handle, frames carried upon the forward end thereof, a clamping plate positioned for longitudinal sliding movement between the frames, guide members carried by the locking plate to receive a portion of the frames therebetween, and locking plates positioned between the guide plates and adapted for engagement with the frames for re- 3. A mop comprising a handle, frame members of substantial T-shaped configuration providing elongated looped portions within their forward ends and having spaced legs carried upon one end of the handle, a T-shaped clamping plate adapted for sliding movement between the frame members, guide plates carried upon the opposed sides of the clamping plate and receiving appropriate portions of the frame members therebetween, and locking means positioned between the guide plates for biting engagement with the frame members to sustain the clamping plate in a desired position.

A. mop comprising a handle, frame members of substantial T-shaped formation providing looped portions at their forward ends, said members having legs disposed in spaced parallel relation rearwardly thereof and carried upon the forward end of the handle, a correspondingly shaped clamping plate having guide plates upon the opposed side edges of the leg and receiving portions of the legs of theframe members therebetween, locking plates fitted between the guide plates upon the opposed sides of the clamping plate, said locking plates providing shoulders upon their inner sides adapted for biting engagement with the legs of-the frame members, and a bolt carried by the locking plates and passed through said clamping plate whereby the latter may be rigidly held in a desired adjusted position.
