ISAAC ALBERT BAUM, 0F MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE.
PLASTER TERMINAL.
Application filed January 14, 1926. Serial No. 81,325.
My present invention relates generally to door and window openings, and more particularly to plaster' terminals constructed and for utilization in connection therewith in such manner as to cooperate with the trames around doorand window openings and to supplant, and do away with the necessity of, the usual inside blind stops or door frame finishing strips, and the primary object of my invention in thus doing away with the necessity of inside blind stops as well as trame finishing strips, is the elimination 'of divisions of, or cracks between, the adjacent materials whereby to render such frames more nearly verminproot than has heretofore been possible, as well as to provide against air leaks and the like.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates my present invention and forms a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a sectional perspective view through one side of a window frame illus-V trating the practical application of my invention in connection therewith,
Figure 2 is a sectional perspective view through one lower side portion of a door and its frame illustrating another practical application of my invention, and
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of a portionot' the plaster terminal proposed by my invention.
Referring now to these figures, and particularly to Figure 3, my invention proposes` a. plaster terminal formed of metal, with a flat, or substantially flat, body portion 1() of sufficient width to span one side 'of a window trame box or to solidly attach to wall studding adjacent to a door iframe. This body may, if' so desired, be crimped, corrugated or otherwise impressed to lend the same additional strength, and may be notched, apertured, or struck up to insure the retention of plaster placed thereagainst. The body of the plaster terminal as proposed by my invention is furthermore provided along one edge with an approximately right angular flange 11and the latter has in turn along its free edge an inwardly bent lip 12 provided with a reverting tree edge 13, the lip 12 and flange 11` together with a portion of the body 10 cooperating to form substantiallv a channel into which wall plast-er is, in accordance with my invention, extended around a window or door frame whereby the plaster is protected, the reverting tree edge 13 of the lip being embedded in` the wall plaster so extended in yorder to Apermanently vinsure proper positioning of the lip 12 as well as to prevent the latterk from becoming misshapen.
In Figure 1 I have shown one manner in which my invention'may be utilized in lieu of one inner side of a window trame box to `do away with the necessity of what is commonly known as the inner blind stop, the body 10 et the plaster terminal closing the inner side of the window trame box 14: so that the'wall plaster 15 may be extended continuously across the bodv 10 and into the channel formed for its reception by the body 10, flange 11 and lip 12.
In Figure 2 I have shown an arrangement of plaster terminal adjacent to a` door 16 and its jamb 17, the body 10 of the plaster terminal being in this instance simply used to securely fasten the plaster terminal `to wall studding 18. utilizing the studding 18 and door jamb 17 as a guide so that the wall plaster 19 may be extended continuously to the jamb 17 where the flange 11 and lip 12 project. it being understood that the studding 18 and door jamb 17 are already in place when the plaster terminal is applied, so that the latter' needs no `urther alignment. Y
It isy obvious from this that the usual finishing strips are avoided, and not only is a combustiblel part of the ordinary window and door casing eliminated, but cracks and crevices are done away with, the leakage of air around window trames especially is avoided, and such structures rendered much more nearly vermin-proof than is possible with the methods.'
I claim A, finishing strip for the plaster side of a wall opening comprising a channel strip of met-al with one side flange of a width for suitable anchoring the strip and substitut- -ing 'for the blind stop in a casing about a wall opening, and a bridge portion corresponding in width to the thickness of plaster upon the wall.
