Eaasna HOLDER.
Applicatioirnled May 13, '19257.` Serial iNo. 30,110.
ferred embodiment in the accompanying fixed member or attaching lplate to which the retaining member is attached,*and
Fig. 6 is a cross sectional view of the attaching plate indicated by line 6 6 of Fig. but with the plate secured to the chalk rail.
Referring to the drawing, 10 designates the blackboard and 11 a chalk rail of ordinary construction.
rlhe eraser holder consists of an attaching plate 12 which is preferably set into a recess 13 in the forward edge 14 of the chalk rail so that the plate is flush with said edge, and an eraser retaining member 15 consisting preferably of a sheet of metal and formed with rearwardly projecting wings 16, 16, the metal being preferably cut away, as indicated at 17, 17. l
The attaching plate 12 is shown as secured to the rail by screws 18 and is formed with longitudinally tapered slots 19, 19, thc inner edges'ot which are beveled, as indicated-at 2Ol (Fig. 6). The slots 19 are formed with enlargements 21, 21.
The retaining member is provided with locking lugs 22, corresponding in number to slots 19, which are wedge-shaped, transversely, and are also preferably tapered longitudinally, all as indicated in Fig. 4. The lugs may be provided with studs 29 Vto extend through perforations in the retaining member after which the studs Amay be upset so'V as to holdith-eilugsrigidly vtothe retaining member;
Preferably the retaining member slightly,*as indicated in Fig. 3.
gaged with the attaching plate'12 by placing l the locking lugsin the enlargements 21 of slots 19 and then moving the member towardV the small ends of theslots. This brings about a wedging engagement between lthe lugs and the beveled edges of the slots and this engagement is preserved by the bending or straightening out of the for-- ward or bodyV portion of the retaining member.
By thisarrangement the retaining-member may be very easily removed from the chalk rail'for the purpose ofcleaning the chalk dust from the rail. The engagement between the retaining member and the plate wheiithe parts are brought together, is a rigid and strong engagement. e f
While I 'have' illustrated and described the invention in a preferred embodiment 1 desire to be understoodV as claiming all modifications within the scope of the appended claims. v
I claim: i
1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a slotted plate and an eraser retaining member which is flexible,
bowed in the direction'of its length and formed with undercut lugs to engage the slots in said plate.
2. In a device of the character described,
the combination of a plate formed with tapered slots having their inner edges beveled, and an eraser retaining member formed withundercut, wedge-shaped lugs to engage the slots in the plate, said eraser retaining member being flexible and bowed in the direction of its'length. p
3. An eraser holder comprising, in combination, a plate formed with tapered slots p vhaving beveled inner edges and enlargements vat one end thereof, and a' sheet metal retaining member formed withn inwardly projecting wings and provided with beveled lugs adapted to engage with and to be disengaged from said tapered slots by-inovements ofthe retaining member in the direction of its length. Y
.4. An eraser holder comprising, in combination, a flat plate formed with tapered slots having beveled inner edgesk and enlargements at oneend thereof, and a sheet metal retaining Vmeiriber formed with in- V beveled lugs adapted Vto :engage .With and be disengaged from seid tapered slots by Ymovements of the retaining member in the Y o direction of its length, sai'dlreteining memv, ber beingl flexible eind slightlybowed so that vit isy bent to straight by engagement with saidplate. Y y v 5. A11 eraser holder Comprising a flexible 10 resilienbslieet' metal eraser retaining membei', attaching ineens adapted to be fixed to a blackboard chalk reilfand means on the inside of said retaining member adapted to bevengaged with said fixed attaeliingf means so vthatLt-li'e retaining'member covers vsaid fixeda'ttaehing means and is sprung out ol' normal shape and Vthus put under stre rail.
