My invention relates "to :mop wringers, and it Vhas `particular relation to fa' device adapted to vbe mounted in a bucket or pail for the purpose of gripping the "lower end of a mop whereby the 'excess water maybe wrung `therefrom by manually twisting the mop while the lowerend thush'eld,
The principal object of nay-invention is to provide a device ofthe'ch'aracter afore said which 'will be efficient in operation, which may be inexpensively constructed, and vwhich is adaptedtobe mounted in ya bucket or pail of ordinary construction rvfor the purpose of gripping'a portion ofthe mopwhile the excess wat/cris being wrung therefrom by manually twisting 'the Tm'op. j
The nature'and'characteristic features of my invention lwill be-nior'efreadily understood from the following-description, taken in connection with the `ac'companyingdraw ings forming part hereo'f,fin which :`r
Figure is a, tOp OI plan View V'Of a wringer embodying the m'ain v'featuresof my present invention, Vthe saine being shown mounted ina bucketor pail of ordinary 'construction, and the mop wringer :b'eingshown in the open position;
Fig. 2 is a similar iew, but with the mop wr'in'ger shown in :the closed or gripping position, the mop', however, being omitted for the lpurpose of clearne'ss;
' Fig-'3 iS "a veIti'Cl Central stion, taken ap'proximatelyfon the line of Fig. '2, the lower end'o'f themopV being shown in position. andv gripped by the wringer;
Fig. 4 is an enlargedv detail view illus'- Ytrating the constructionof the bracket yfor securing the' wringer place in the bucket; and
Fig. 5 'is aside .elevation of one of the foot members provided 'for holding fthe bucket in a iix'ed position onthe {lor while l the wringing operation is raking place.
Referring to thedrawings, inthe particular embodiment of my inventintherein shown, V10 is a bucket 'or pail ff "ordinary construction, preferably of the :type `in common use, 'made ofV sheet metal -'suh v'van-ized steel. vSecured to f the-bucket, near {theu'be'ad 1'1 allfir einen; at the' top peftijufrr, e f and outer"rs"`tifplat 12 and' 13 tively. VThe abejas 1i, wie
Mounted in the sector plates' 12 'and 13 is a bracket member 15, the 'outer end of which yisthreaded, as at A16, Vfor the purpose of mounting 'thereon nutsV 17 and 18, which serve to secure the bracket member 15 to the sector plates 12 and 13," as well as to the wall of the buck-et 10, which .extends between'sa'id plates.
Thejinner end of theV bracket member 15 orifice. f
has'an enlarged portion 19, inivhicliftherev is secured an-arm 20. .The 'port-ionof the arm 20 which is mounted'in 'the enlarged portion "19 of the bracket `member 15 is curvledasat 21.- Said arm ext-ends fromV said curved portion -21 ina straight portion 22, and theouter end thereof passes through the wall of the bucket `10,` as at23. In this manner thearm 20 will be fixedly'positioned `with respect to the vbucket 10. Y
The endV of the curved portion 21 of the at 24,fa curved link 25.- The other end of the curved link 257is-pivotally'connected,
tion'at28- The =ar1n27 thence extends inl a straight portion 30,' and terminates in an outwardly extending portion 31.
`Mounted in the shank portion yof the bracket member 15 is an auxiliary bracket 32, which preferably vextendsV downward,
`thence horizontallyl as at'33,"an`d thence up.
wardly as at 34. The upwardextension 34 ofthe auxiliary bracket 32l is provided with 'a plate member 35j, in which are mounted a plurality of lupv'vardly extending rods orv wires 36, which extend within vand in prox-V imityto 'the curved portion 21 of the arm l20. The rods or wires 36 are more or less V purpose which will be presently understood.` f
flexible, for a ai e, @Mvil ad, th fitrief ded'attheybcttom erw-:afan needing fea pettine? 1 Y which is adapted tobe engaged by the fooi of the user. There are preferably provided Y. Vtwo of such devices, mounted on opposite,v
sides of the bucket,v whereby the user may l place one foot on each of the'eXtensions 39 thus provided, and thereby firmly hold the bucket 10 against movement on the floor `when-the strain is put on the structureduring the wringing operation. 1GV The operation of the device may now be explained. The bucket Yhas the device above described `mounted thereimand contains a y suitable quantity of' water fo-r washing purposes. The mop, which may be of any preferred construction, is first manipulated in' the water whereby the same will be cleansed of any impurities, but at the same time will vof. the arm 27, and thercurved link engage the lower end of the mop, and in conjunction with the curved Yportion 2l of the arm 20, .serve to "grip the same `as thefmop is twisted by the user to wring the `excess water therefrom. I Y' Y The wires or rodsare preferably of sufficient flexibility as4 not to interfere with the twisting of the mop, while at the same time they will serve to assist ingripping the vsam-e tol remove more effectively the excess Awater from the lower portion of the. mop, whiclieX- tends below thegripping portion ofthe arm-s 20 and27 and thelink 25. Y l
It should, however, be understood that the provision of the vwires or rods 86 is-not vabsolutely essential, as Ythe same may, in some instances, be omitted if desired, withoutdeparting' from the spirit of my invention.v
lt should be noted,l however, that thepiv-` otalrconnections at24c and 26, whereby the ends of the'curved link 25 areoonnected to lthe respective ends of the arms 2O vand, 2,7, are preferably made quite loose, so that the arm 27Vmay be readily swung over the top ofthe bucket, and be permitted to clear the `l1 is secured to the bucket. y Y.
VThe `ioor members .37, for holding the bucket against movement on theffloor during the wringing operation, may be readily 6o convenience of the u'ser.. lt will ralso ybe found A in' ,practice `that Vthe outward ycurva'- ture, as at 31,'of the endof the armr27, may be engaged bythe. leg of the userxandfthe arm is in the clampingposition.A
ears 4:0 by means of Whichthe .bail handle positioned at any desired 'placetosuit the" yof the grippingaction ofthe curved portions ofthe arms 20and 27 andthe link 25, which engage the lower end of the mop.
kIt will be seen thatthere is thus provided a relativelysimple, yet effective form of mop `wringer, whichV may be readily mounted in a bucket of ordinary construction, which defl vice may be. inexpensively constructed` and easily and quickly mounted in place in the bucket, Without any great skill being re` quiredin so mounting the same, thus 4greatly facilitatingthe shipping of the device in knockfdown form.. Y
Having thus described thejnature and characteristic features of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is: y .n ,1.
