7 This invention relates to new anduse f'ul improvements in safety connecting links.
The invent-ionhas particularly to do with the linkswhich are used to; connect the rods extending from pumping powers to pump jacks as'used 1n the oil fields, and isian vember'17, 1925.
The object of the invention is to provide a hook having an eye at one end whereby it may be permanently connected to the jack rod and a hook at the other end for connecting with the power rod, together y Le ter Pa en #1.,5619 issued N with a hand grip located intermediate its ends for safely handling thelink.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a guard adjacent the hand grip and opposite the connecting hook for preventing injury to the operators hand by contact with the rod. 1
Another object of the invention is to provide certain reinforcements and thus pre clude breakage and distortion, which is quite common with the links now in general use.
A construction designed to carry out the invention will. be hereinafter described,to-
. gether with other features of the invention.
The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which an example of the invention is shown and wherein:
Fig. 1 is a view in elevation showing a link constructed in accordance with my invention, and connecting a pumping rod with a jack rod,

In using the hook the eye 11 is attached to the coupling A of the pumpja-ckrod' B. -The operator grasps the link by the hand grip 15, passing his fingers through the opening 16 and placing his thumb against'the guard lug 18. With the link thus held and his hand and thumb protected, he places the disconnecting block (not shown) between the coupling A and,
the knock-off post E. The link will; then drop off inthe usual way. To connect the link the operator grasps the hand grip 15 with one hand and engages the hook 1-9 in the coupling C of the power rod D.
Where the link is used with an anchor or a hook-ofl? the operator grasps the grip 15 and engages the hook 20 in the clamp of the hook-0E rod (not shown), whereby the hook f19 will disengage on the return reciprocation of the'irod D and'drop off.
When the hook 19 is engaged with the couf pling C the hook-off rod will drop off the hook 20. l
It will be seen that the lug 18 will pre vent injury to the operators hand by engaging the couplingC in case the rod B moves forwardly to this point. The web 21 gives the hook structure sufficient strength and yet reduces the weight to a minimum.
Various changes in the size and "shape of the different parts, as well as modifications and alterations, may be made within the scope of the appended claims. 1
What I claim,"is; 1 1. A safety connecting a link for pump lOO rods, comprising, a link body having a connecting eye at one end and a coupling hook at its opposite end, and a hand grip between 05 the eye and the hook, there being a finger opening under the hand grip.
2; A safety connecting link for pump rods comprising, a link body having a connecting eye at one end and a coupling hook at its opposite end, a hand grip between the eye and the hook, there being a finger opening under the hand grip, and aguardlug at the hook end of the hand grip.
3. A safety connecting link for pumping rods comprising, a longitudinal shank having a ring with an eye at one end and a connecting hook at the other end, a hand grip arched over the shank and providing a finger opening therebetWeen, and a guard lug at the hook end of the hand grip.
4.1 A safety connecting link for pumping rods comprising, a longitudinal shank having a ring with an eye at one end and a connecting hook at the other end, a hand grip archedover the shank and providing a finforcing fin extending along the outer side pf the hand grip and merged into the guard 5. A safety connecting link for pumping rods comprising, a longitudinal shank having a ring with an eye at one end and a neck at its opposite end, a connecting hook at the outer end of the neck, a throw-off hook at the inner end of the neck, a reinforcing web extending outwardly from the neck and connecting the hooks, a curved hand grip arched over the shank and providing a finger' opening therebetween, a guard lug extending outwardly from the grip and curved downwardly to the neck, and a reinforcing fin extending along the grip and merged into the lug. g In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
