IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-MOLDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,651, dated April 6, 1875; application filed December 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REMsEN APPLEBY, of Perth Amhoy, Middlesex county, New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Molds, of which the following is a specification The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is a plan of the inverted upper mold, showing metal tips to the cavities for cutting or trimming off the heads of the fillers. Fig. 2 is a plan of the lower mold, showing a notched plate, with which the cavities are armed, to act in conjunction with the metal tips of the upper part for trimming the heads. Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 1 on the line .70 00. Fig. 4 is a section of Fig. 2 on the line 3/ y, and Fig. 5 is a section of Figs. 1 and 2 on the line b I).

A represents the cavities of the lower mold, and B the cavities of the upper one, being, in all respects, the same as the ordinary molds, except, at the heads of the cavities, I arrange the metal tips O, and notched plate D on the lower ones, to form cutters by which to trim off any excess of stock there may be at the head of the filler, and at the same time taper it on two sides, to allow of making the required taper finish to the head without compressing the stock, so as to interfere with the draft of the cigars, which is so common in the molded cigars now in use.
