. App1iceition mm Decem'ber My invention resides in an improved die mechanismaflapted to the formation of holl0w extensions of vbodies of sheet material. The mechanism of my invention .enables 3 the fornriation of such. "extensions without cracks Q1 fissures in the product. The mechanism of myinvention ineludes male and femle members and a spring yieldingly pressing one cf the die me mbers toward .u the other wit-h a pressure sufficierit to exert drawing engagement of the die members upn the 'maiterialinterposed therebetween..
My invention is of partic ular ser vice in i the formation of tubular or cyli ndrical prol5 jections, and when thus employed the male member is in the form of'a cylindrical punch having a conical wo rking end and the female' me mben is. pr0vided with a conical cavity conformixig-inshape to the conical end 2 of the punch.
Hitherto there was no tendency -te draw the-sheet materisil as the punch descended with themesult that fissuies were liabl e to form at the bases of the extension. T
By grippingthe work*between the two die members the sheet material is drawn as the die operates' thereon to relieve the fissure forming tendency.

This body of rubber is held in assembly With the plate 11 by means of the plate 13 engaging the bottorn spring cushion, a holt 14 sci ewecl in the part 10, and a nut 15 up01'1 the lowerend of the holt, this nut clamping the cushi0n 12 between the plates 11 and 13. As illustrated, ehe members of the die are vertically a1iang@d, the female 'member 3 and its supporting cushion 12 heilig lower most.
