J. G. MACLAREN PNEUMATIC msmwcn CARRIER iled Oct. 11. 1922 I Q i II" Patented Jan. 4, 1927.
UNITED STATES TO THE LAMSON COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF 1VIASSACI-IUSETTS.
PNEUMATIC DISPATCH, CARRIER.
Application filed October 11, 1922. Serial No. 593,687.
This invention relates generally to carrier devices for use with pneumatic dispatch ap paratus.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an improved carrier device particularly adapted for the transportation of memorandum slips, reference data and other matter involving the use of slips or sheets of paper from one place to another through the.
conveyor tubes of a pneumatic dispatch system.
The invention includes the provision of a slip holder attached at its ends to terminal buffer members, and a coacting hinged clamping or closure member arranged to be moved into or out of slip holding relation to the slip holder through relative rotation of the terminal buffer members. Other features of the invention include the provision of sight openings inthe holder and the closure member through which data on the contained slip may be viewed. Still other features of the invention will be hereinafter referred to.
In the drawings in which a number of preferred embodiments of the invention have been selected for illustration,
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation and partly broken away of a dispatch carrier em' bodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a view in cross section bf the carrier shown in Figure 1 in closed condition.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing the carrier in open condition.
Figure 4: is a view in perspective of an opening device forming part of the carrier construction.
Figure 5 is a view in cross section of a modified form of the carrier showing the carricr in closed condition.
Figure 6 is a View similar to Figure 5 showing the carrier in open condition.
Figure 7 is a view in perspective and partly broken away of one end of the closure member shown in Figures 5 and 6.
Referring to the drawings for a more detailed description of the invention, a slip holder member 5 is shown which preferably consists of a fiat and shallow receptacle, rec-:
support terminal bufier members 7 and 8 of a known type commonly formedof felt. The
buffer 8 is. fixed to the adjacent member 6, while thebuffer 7 is rotatably connected to its disc 6. i
A closure member or clip 9 is hinged along.
one edge to the rearward extremity ofthe slip holder 5 and is adapted in its closed position to lie within the opening of the slip 1 holder substantially flush with the upper edge of the front wall member 10 of the slip rat FFICE. 1
JAMES G. MACLAREN, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR, BY ME SNE ASSIGNMENTS,
operating the hinged closure member, an
inwardly projecting finger or lug 1 L is ar ranged on the right-hand terminal member 7 for engagement with the under side of the adjacent end portion of the clip or closure member 9. The terminal member 7 being rotatably mounted, it will be seen that the rotation of the terminal buffer 7 to the right causes the finger 14 to lift the closure memher 9 from its closed to an open position with relation to the slip holding receptacle 5. In order to bring the closure to its closed position the buffer member 7 is rotated in the opposite direction whereupon, in the form of the invention shown in Figure 1, a spring 15 moves the closure member 9 to its closed position, the member 9 following the 'movement of the finger 14.
In the form of the invention shown in Figure 5 of the drawings the spring 15 is dispensed with and the operating finger is used to move the closure member to both its closed and its opened positions. This function is achieved by the provision of a slotted guide member 16 on the end of the closure member 9, the slot 17 receiving the operating finger 14 as will be clear.
It will be seen that I have provided a carrier device which is particularly adapted to hold and transport paper slips, folded or not folded, iii-which information is contained and which presents identifying data on the slip in position to be easily viewed with one side of the holder and cooperating therewith to hold a memorandum slip.
2. In an elongate carrier for pneumatic V dispatch"apparatus, a shallow slip holding receptacle, buffer members attached to the ends 01 the receptacle, and a closure member having a hinged connection with the receptacle, the axis of the hinge being substantially parallel to the axis of the carrier.
3. In a carrier tor-pneumatic dispatch apparatus, a shallow elongated rectangular slip holding receptacle, buii'er members attached to the ends o'l-the receptacle, and a closure meinber'hinged to one side of the receptacle.
4; Ina carrier for pneumatic'dispatch appjaratusfa slip holding member, bufier members attachedto the ends of the holder, oneof said buffer members being rotatably mounted, a clip member having a hinged connection with said slip holding member,
and operating means for said hinged member carried by said rotatable bufi'er member.
'5; In a, carrier for pneumatic dispatch apparatus, a slip holding"receptacle, bufier members attached to'the ends of the receptacle, one of said buli'er members being rotatably mounted, a closure member having a hinged connection With said slip holding receptacle, and operating means for said closure member carried by said rotatable buffer member.
6. In a carrier for pneumatic dispatch apparatus, a relatively fiat slip holding member, butler members attached to the ends of the holder, one of said bufi'er members being rotatably mounted, a clip member having a hinged connection With said slip holding member, and operating means for saidcli'p'member actuated by'said rotatable bulier member.
7. In a carrier for pneumatic dispatch apparatus, a relatively fiat slip holding receptacle, butler members attached-to the ends of the receptacle, one of said bufl'er members beingrotatably mounted, a closure member hinged at one lateral edge of the receptacle, and a finger carried by said rotatable buffer member and engaging the adjacent end portion of the closure member to operate the same.
8. In a carrier for pneumatic dispatch apparatus, a relatively flat elongated and rectangular slip holding receptacle, bufi'er members attached to the ends of the receptacle, one of said bufier terminal members being rotatably mounted, a closure-member hinged to one lateral edge of the receptacle, a linger carried by said rotatableterminal member and engaging the. under surface of the adjacent end or the closure member, and spring means tending to move the closure member to closedposition.
