nears s'r vres PTENT REFRIGERATOR DISPLAY CASE.
Application filed July 9,
This invention relates to refrigerator display cases and has for its object the provision of a display case of this character which is of such interior construction as to enable the proper temperature to be maintained within the case by periodical circulation of a refrigerating medium through a cooling coil located in the central portion of the case.
A further purpose of the invention is to provide a display case of the character stated in which the article supporting shelves are of the lattice type and arranged to extend from opposite sides of the cooling coil to the ends of the case.
Other purposes and advantages of the invention as well as the details of construction and combination of parts characterizing the embodiment herein disclosed will be more readily understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the refrigerator display case.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the refrigerator display case.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken along the line lf of Figure 1, and
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken along the line 55 of Figure 4.
Proceeding now to a more detailed discussion of the drawings, 5 designates a rectangular floor engaging frame upon which the-case, desi nated as a whole by reference character 6, is adapted to be supported. One sid of the frame 5 is hinged, as 7, to the case 6 to permit access to a drip pipe 8 carried by a metal pan 9 constituting the bottom of the case. This pan 9 is secured to and closes the center of a substantially rectangular base frame 10 upon which are supported the side and end walls of the case as hereina ter described.
The front wall of the case is formed, in the present instance, by two glas panels 11 and 12, made of any dc 'red thi joined at their inner vertical edges to an intervening wooden panel provided at the inner side with coil; or other suitable heat insulating lining 1. L Tic outer vertical edges of the panels 11 and 12 are joined to the front corner posts 15 and 16. The ends of the case are formed by the glass panels 17 and 18 having their front vertical edges s clrness and 1926. Serial No. 121,449.
secured to the aforesaid front corner posts 15 and 16 and their rear vertical edges secured to the rear corner posts 19 and 20.
The rear wall of the case is formed by a plurality of vertically extending members 21 and horizontally ext-ending members 22 arranged to define a plurality of door openings closed by suitable doors 23, certain of said doors being hingedas at 24 to the front corner posts of the case and the remaining doors being hinged as at 25 to an insulated wooden panel 26 forming the central, part of the rear wall and correspondingin structure to the opposing panel 13.
The side and end walls of the case, hereinbefore described, serve to support thereon a rectangular top frame 27 carrying a metal glass holding frame 28 in which is secured the glass cover panel 29.
At each side of the panels 13 and 26 the front and rear walls of the case are connected by vertically spaced shelf supports 30 aligned with complementary supports 31 extending across the end portions of the case. Carried by these supports are a plurality of shelves 32 of open work or lattice type which serve to divide the interior of the case at each side of said panels into a. plurality of superimposed compartments. The space bounded by the panels 13 and 26 and the shelf supports 30 constitutes a coil receiving chamber in which is arranged a vertically extending cooling coil 33 made substantially oval in shape and preferably supported in upright position by the said shelf supports 30. The coil is made oval shaped so as to extend substantially the full width of the case between panels 13 and 26 with the flattened portions of the coil spaced apart to take up the full width of the cooling chamber r served between the opposing shelf supports 30.
The terminal portions 84 and 35 of the coil 33 may be carried outwardly through the case as shown in Figure 5 or in any other desired manner for connection to a suitable type of refrigerant circulating apparatus.
In the use of the refrigerator display case described in the foregoing it has been found that a periodical circulation of a refrigerating agent through the coil 33 is sufficient to maintain the air in the case at a very low temperature. This naturally results in a considerable saving with respect to the operating cost of the refrigerant circulating apparatus as compared with the known prior types of refrigerating cases requiring contin uous circulation of the cooling agent there-- through in order to maintain the desired temperature. This advantage of the present invention is attributed to the interior construction of the case including the specific arrangement of the lattice Work shelves and the specific location and shape of the cooling coil 33.
Having described in the foregoing my present conception of the preferred embodiment of the invention it Will he understood that various changes in construction and assembly of parts may he resorted to Within the scope and spirit of the invention as de fined by the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A refrigerator display case, a vertically extending cooling coil arranged therein, a plurality of shelves extending from opposite walls of the case to opposite sides of the coil, and a plurality of shelf supports carrying said shelves and extending transversely across the case, the supports at the inner ends of the shelves engaging the sides of the coil to maintain the latter in upright position.
2. A refrigerator display case including front and rear insulated panels forming the central portions of the front and rear Walls of the case, a vertically extending cooling coil arranged in the case between said panels, shelves extending from each end of the case to the adjacent side of the coil and a plurality of shelf supports extending across the case immediately adjacent each side of said panels and serving to support the inner ends of said shelves and to engage the sides of the coil to maintain the latter in upright position Within the space bounded by said panels and shelf supports.
In testimony whereof I hereunto my signature.
