REFRIGERATOR;
Application-fil'ed--J'uly 275, 1924; firia-IANI; 728152031- Tor-,aZZ who/m t 'may concer/11,:
Be it known, that I, @may S, BURTON, a citizenA ofthe UnitedStates', residing at Pensacola7 in the-.county of. Escambia and'Sta-te of'y Florida, have inventedllcertain new andusef-ul- Improvements in! Refrigeratonbf whichI thev following is. aspecification.
This invention 1 relatesrto new and" useful improvements. in refrigerators and:` hasv fory its principal object to provide. a simpleA and efiicientdevice which may be: easily an'defliciently carried on an automobile and' is prin-- cipally adaptedrto-be used-by personswhile touring or camping. l
One ofA the important objects of thepresent inventionv istofprovide a` refrigerator of the above-mentionedcharacter, whichis of such a construction as to'enable-t-he receptacle` receiving the variousfoods to bel kept in cool condition, means beingy further provided; for preventing warm air' coming/in Contact with the receptacle.
A. further object ofthe invention is to provide a refrigeratorA off the above`l mentioned character, wherein. the .parts are so arranged astoenable a:person-to have readv access thereto whenever necessary;
A; further object is to provideia refrigerator of theabove mentioned? character,v which issimple inconstruction, inexpensive strong and-l durabley andl furthermorer` adapted for' the purposes fory which it isdesignated.`
@ther 'objectsV and advantages; off this in vention will become apparent during. the` course. of. the following, description.
In .the accompanying.y drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved refrigerator, and
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section thereof.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 'designates generally the casing of my improved refrigerator and the same is open at its top and is substantially rectangular in design. The casing may be formed of any suitable metallic material and I do not wishA to limit myself to the particular kind of material to be used. The casing furthermore includes the spaced inner and outer walls as well as the spaced bottoms whereby a dead air space 2 is provided between the walls and bottoms in the manner moreclearly illus-- tratedl in Figure 1@ of the drawing. It will? of course be1 understood that/the inner and' outerwal'lsfof thei casing areffsealed at ytheir upper edges asl illustrated at 3.v
The casing` 1 isi provided?3 with a hinged cover' 4' and the samealso Y include'si'the` spaced inner andifouterwalls whereby` an air space 5 is'provided. rIhe lower edges of the inner andi outer walls comprising-thel covei`-` 4' aire-i4 sealed as illustrated at` 6- in". order that theA air space'em'ay be provided. Anysu'itable' packing such as is-sh'own at? -is yinter-posedbetween theA sealedupper edges of the cas ing 1 and the adjacent edges of the cover 4. Amy suitable closureI means such as is'willustrated4 at'v Af is provided?l for securing` the` cover in' ak locked position. with-respect to' the casing 1;
Adapted tolbesupportedwithin the cas'-V ing 1 and; resting'on they false bottom9-` of the casing is the receptacle lwhichisopen' at its top,y theisamef'beingf alsoo'f substantially the same material as used inrthe con'- struction of'. the' casingv an'difurth'er being substantially. rectangular in7 design. The receptacle. 1Y0l has itsl walls spaced from'f the inner walls r of;I .the casing-vv whereby an ice compartment or chamber '111.isprovidedv l The ends. of'the receptacle 10l have supportedon` theirinner faces the' strips or guides-12 which provideva means for' supporting a shelf? or shelves in the.y receptacle; A- hinged' cover 13=. is provided for -thef open top of the receptacle 10`l and the'.fhin'g`ged cover* 13@ is furthen provided with? a1 plurality; of;v open--y ings 147 the purpose of which will hereinafter be more fully described. A drain pipe such as is shown at 15 extends through the inner and outer walls of the casing 1 and communicates with the ice compartment or chamber 11 for the purposes well known in the art.
Extending longitudinally within the cover 4 for the casing 1 and communicating at its respective ends with the end walls ofthe cover is the' ventilator tube 16. The end walls Aof the inner walls of the cover 4 have openings 17 arranged therein for communication with the ends of the tube 16 and the tube is furthermore provided with a plurality of spaced openings 18 the purpose of which will also hereinafter be more fully described. The outer walls of the cover 4 are provided with openings 19 in the front and rear sides thereof in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawing. rIhe purpose of the tube 16 and the various openings above set forth is to provide a means whereby the warm air within the casing and the receptacle may be emitted through the openings in the tube and the openings in the cover l` whereby the warm and foul air will be discharged from the interior of the casing as well as from the receptacle l0,k the openings i4 in the cover 13 for the receptacle enabling the warm air to be emitted therefrom.
If desiredT the container l0 may have its inner walls lined vith porcelaa, enamel or any other suitable material. 'llhe provision of a refrigerator of the above mentioned character, enables the same to be easily and readily carried on an automobile for use by campers or persons making a long trip and when the ice compartment li is filled with ice, the contents within the receptacle will be kept in a cold condition and warm air will be prevented from coming in contact therewith.
IVhile I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is l. A refrigerator comprising a substantially rectangular shaped casing open at its top, said casing including spaced inner and outer side walls and bottom, Aforming a dead air space therebetween, a hinged cover for the casing, a receptacle within the casing supported on the false bottom and spaced from the inner walls of the casing, forming an ice compartment around the receptacle, means for conducting the warm air from the interior of the casing and the receptacle outwardly through the cover of the casing, said means comprising an elongated tube supported in the cover of the casing, said cover having openings therein communicating with the ends of the tube, said tube having openings therein communicating with the interior of the casing.
2. refrigerator comprising a substantially rectangular shaped casing open at its top, said casing including spaced outer and inner side walls and bottom, the upper edges of the walls being sealed to provide a dead air space between the walls, a hinged cover for the casing including spaced inner and outer walls, a receptacle within the casing and spaced from the inner walls thereof forming an ice compartment around the receptacle, said receptacle having its top open and provided with a hinged cover, said cover for the receptacle having openings therein, a tube on the inner side of said cover having the ends thereof communicating with openings provided in the inner end walls of the cover, said tube having opening arranged therein and communicating with the interior of the casing and the receptacle therein. the outer side walls of the cover for the casing having openings therein whereby warm air within the receptacle and casing may be discharged outwardly through the tubes and the cover for the casing.
3. A refrigerator comprising a casing of substantially rectangular design and being open at its top, a cover therefor, and means for conducting the warm air from the interior of the casing outwardly through the cover,` said means comprising an elongated tube supported in the cover of the casing, the cover being provided with openings for communication with the respective ends of the tube, said tube having' openings therein communicating with the interior of the casing.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
