ATTACHMENT FOR THE FOOT RESTS OF SHOE-SI-IINING STANDS.

The present invention relates to an attachment for the foot rest of a shoe shining stand having for its principal object to provide a means for clamping a shoe to the rest so that the patron is relieved of the necessity of holding his shoes steady on the rest while being shined, and also allowing empty shoes to be placed on the rest for being shined.

Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which may be attached to any size foot rest and is capable of adjllStll'lGIlt for clamping any size shoe.

A still further very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a a device of this nature which is an exceed ii'igly simple, strong and durable structure, .one which is capable of being manufactured at a low cost, easily operated, easily assembled or disassembled, and one which is otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.

With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in cer- 'tain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a bottom plan view of a foot rest showing our attachment engaged therewith,

Fig. 3 is a section taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the letter A denotes the usual foot rest mounted on shank B. The numeral 5 denotes the body of our attachment which is in the form of a plate having depending side flanges 6 terminating in latorally disposed outwardly extending extensions 7. This plate 5 is adapted to be clamped under the foot rest A by means of the jaws 7 which are provided with ears 8 pierced by a bolt 9. A pair of shoe sole en a ing jaws 10 are provided with shanks 11 having upstanding flanges 12 provided with channels 13 on their inner surfaces for receiving the flange extensions 7 so that the jaws 10 may be spaced apart a desirable distance to receive the shoe sole therebetween.

Depending ears 14 are provided at the in nor extremities of the shanks 11 and abar 15 is provided with oppositely threaded portions 16 piercing the ears 14. A rotating knob 17 is fixed on the bar 15.

lVhen the attachment is assembled on the foot rest, it will be seen that the shoe on the rest may be clamped thereon by the jaws 10 engaging the soles by proper manipulation of the knob 17. This attachment is exceedingly compact and convenient, besides being simple and capable of being manufactured at a low cost. It prevents the shoe on the shoe rest from shifting around, thereby eliminating the annoyance both to the boot black and the patron.

The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail, merely by way of example, since in actual practice, it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description. It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to as do not depart from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is An attachment of the class described including, in combination, a body, means for clamping the body to a foot rest, said body provided with depending flanges having lateral extensions, a pair of jaws including shanks having flanges provided with channels for receiving the extensions of the body so as to be slidable on the body, depending ears extending from the shanks, a shaft having oppositely threaded portions engaged with the ears.
