T his invention relates to a device of the type ln-fown as copy-holders for holding -aiiid copy any portion ot a long list of items easily and accurately.

Another object of the invention is to provide a ready means for marking any particular place or line which is being copied, in order to avoid unnecessary skipping or repeating ot any of the subject matter.

Ir'still further object is to provide a holder that can be readily adapted to hold a variety "of sheets of paper of diilerent sizes fand shapes, such as long lists of data, note boutis, or a plurality of cards of any defsired shape or size.

ik further object of the invention is to provide a device ot the type indicated, which fis durable and simple in construction and which is convenient in operation. Other objects will appear from the following speciiication and claims and the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a pire- ;terred form of the invention, showing the device in operative position;

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a tray, which is adapted to be secured to the copyholder for holding cards;

Fig. 3 is a side elevation looking from the right at the device as shown in Fig. 1;

Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4 of Fig. 1; and,

Fig. 5 is a perspective view showing the tray of Fig. 2 and the line marker in operative position.

The preferred form of the device may comprise in a general way an inclined plate 1 upon which sheets of paper, as indicated at 2, may be mounted, an adjusting and retaining mechanism 3 for adjustably retaining the paper in position, a line marker l and a card tray 5, which may be detachably mounted upon the plate 1 and serves to hold `groups of cards, or the like.

nel member (i, into which a flattened angularly disposed end T of a supporting rod 3 may be removably inserted. A pedestal 9 has an opening 10 into which the lower 'end ot the supporting rod 8 may be inserted and adjustably clamped at a desired elevation by a thumb screw 11.

At the upper side oi' the plate 1, a bracket 12 may be provided which serves to support the adjusting mechanism 3 and also 4a rod 13 upon which the line marker l is mounted. rllhe lower end of the rod 13 is shown retained in a bracket 14, 'riveted at 15 to the plate ,1. l i y v As indicated in Fig. 5, the line marker 4 may be riveted at 16a to a sliding bracket 16, havingl integral bent up lugs 17 and 1S, each provided with openings for the rod 13. The lug '1'8fmay be slightly extended to 'provide a handle 19. A small` flat spring 2O is shown riveted at 21 to the base portion of the bracket 16 Aand serves to hold the bracket 16 frictionally inplace 'upon the rod 13. It will thus be seen that the line marker 4 may be adjusted at any desired position upon the plate 1 by the operator by merely grasping the handle 19 'and moving it up and down along the bar 13.,

24 and 25, respectively, formed upon the tray 5. The tray 5, as shown, comprises merely a base portion 26 and a back portion 27 which serve to hold a group ot cards or the like, as indicated at 28. With this construction, it will be obvious that it it is desired to use long sheets of paper upon the plate 1, the. tray 5 maybe removed and will not lobstruct the proper use of the surface of the plate 1. However, when it is desired to copy information from a series ot' cards, the tray 5 may be readily attached in place. It will be noted that the plate 1 is slightly inclined in a backward direction which not only permits ot more secure mounting and reading of the manuscripts thereon. but also permits the card tra-y 5 and cards to rest in a stable inclined position.

The adjusting mechanism 3 comprises a shaft 29 rotatably mounted in
