IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-PAINTERS EASELS'.
Specification-forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,959, dated March 16, 1875; application filed January 25, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALVARO GALATIA RYKERT, of Attica, "in the county of Wyoming and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Adjustable Platform- Jacks for Carriage-Painters use, of which the following is a specification: V
This invention is an improvement on my patent of February 4, 1873, No. 135,593; and consists, essentially, in the cross-bars or platform arms, which are constructed in one piece with the pivot, the ends of two of the bars furnished with an adjustable jaw and eccentric lever, and the other two with pins or claws for better holding the carriage-body thereon, as hereinafter fully explained.
In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation with wagon-body attached; Fig. 2, an end elevation, the arms in perspective; and Fig. 3, detail view of the eccentric and jaw.
A represents the standard or standards, and B the adjustable sector-wheel. In the socket 0 sets the pivot-pin d of the platform 0, havin g four arms, f f f f. These arms and pivotpin are cast in one piece of metal, and swing around in any direction, and are held at any point, as shown in Fig. 2, by a thumb-screw, '6, which goes through the top of the standard A, and through one side of the socket 0, and bites against the pivot-pin d, holding it until loosened. The opposite ends of the platformarms ff are constructed with a slot, j, at right angles to the arms, (see Fig. 3,) and in the slot is a movable jaw, 70, held by a nut-screw or its equivalent, to adjust it according to the width of the strip or piece Z, which is attached to the bottom of the wagon-body D, and by which the body is held on the platform 0. On the other side of this slot is pivoted a short eccentric lever, n, which presses and holds the other side of the strip 1 against the jaw 70.
The ends of the other two arms f f are provided with upright lugs or teeth g g, which are cast on andhold the sides of the wagonbody.
By these simple devices all wedges, grooves,
keys, 850., are done away with, and the whole my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
