E. L. DISNEY WRDROBE SUITCASE Filed Jan. ll. 1025 2 Sheets-Shea"v l attente Dec. 7,1926. 1,609,348
E. L. DISNEY WARDROBE SUITCASE Filed Jan. 11, 1923 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Tyg- J A f coats and the like while the transverse drawers 11 are adapted to hold the smaller articles of wearing apparel such as collars, handkerchiefs and other accessories which are used.
These drawers 8 and 11 are adapted to be withdrawn from the receptacle 1 for the purpose of permitting access to the same and the longitudinally extending drawers 8 are provided with handles 12 which are carried in the front faces of the drawers 8 intermediate its ends and these handles 12 are arranged in vertical alinement as more clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The transverse drawers 11 are provided with notches or grooves 13 formed therein in the front face for the purpose of permitting the person to place his lingers therein in order that the drawers 11 may be withdrawn from the receptacle 1 whenever the case necessitates.
rlhe receptacle 1 is provided with a hinged cover 14 which is hinged to the bottom 5 as more clearly shown at 15 in the drawings. The hinged cover 14 is adapted to close the entire front open face of the yreceptacle 1 and will furthermore prevent the accidental displacement or withdrawal of the drawers 8 and 11 respectively from the receptacle 1 when in a closed position. The cover lll is adapted to carry therein a pair of spaced supporting strips 16 and 17 respectively and these supporting strips 16 and 17 are placed within the cover 14C so that their inner ends will be spaced from each other and so arranged that the space formed therebetween as shown at 18 in the drawings will be in vertical alinement with the handles 12 provided upon the longitudinally extending drawers 8 for the purpose to be hereinafter more fully described. These supporting strips 16 and 17 which are carried in the cover lll may be fastened thereto by any suitable fastening means and l donot wish to confine myself to the manner in which the same are secured thereto. The supporting strips furthermore are provided with straps 19 and 2O and buckles 21 and 22 respectively for the purpose of permitting the supporting strips 16 and 17 to further hold additional pieces of wearing apparel when. there is no more room in the various drawers to hold the same.
When the hinged cover is in an open position; that is to say, the front face of the receptacle 1 is open so that the drawers 8 and 11 may be with drawn therefrom, access can be had to the drawers 8 and 11 and when it is desired to 'close the receptacle 1 the hinged cover is swung upwardly and engages the ends 3 and l and the top of the receptacle in such a manner that the transversely extending face or slot formed between the supporting strips 16 and 17 will communicate with the handles 12 formed or carried on the receptacle 8 and thereby permit the cover to tightly lit over the Open face of the receptacle and prevent the accidental withdrawal or sliding of the various drawers within the receptacle 1. The hinged cover ll and the top of the receptacle 1 may be further held in a closed position by providing suitable fastening means 23 as is customarily used on the suitcases of the type now in use and also suitable straps pressed cardboard or the like and I do not l' wish to limit myself to the material used in conjunction with my wardrobe suitcase as zirny other material may be substituted there- 1t will further be noted from the foregoing description that a wardrobe suitcase has been provided wherein a person who is constantly traveling will greatly appreciate the eliiciency and time saved in using a wardrobe suitcase of the above mentioned character. In the first place the various articles of apparel are kept in proper condition and further more it is not necessary to spend considerable time in looking through the contents of the suitcase in order to find thel desired article the person wants. The articles of apparel will at all times be kept in a compact and proper condition and the saine are readily obtained by the person whenever so desired with the least possible time and labor.
l? rom the foregoing description of the construction of my improved apparatus, it will be seen that l have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention, and while l have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth7 it is obvious that various changes in form, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
lWhat l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A. wardrobe suitcase comprising a casing, spaced partitions located therein and dividing the same into compartments7 drawers slidably mounted in the compartments and provided at their outer sides with knobs arranged in a row and which projects beyond the plane in which the edges of the casing lie when the drawers are in closed position in the compartments, a cover having a continuous edge fia-nge hinged at one side to the lll) casing at the outer side surface thereof and adapted to receive the edge portion of the casing, reenforoing strips mounted upon the inner side of the cover and spaced from each other at their inner opposite edges, the space between the edges of the strips adapted to receive Jhe knobs when the Cover is closed with relation to the body of the casing and securing straps mounted upon the strips and adapted to bear against the outer faces of the sides of the drawers when the cover is Closed over the Casing and extending Aalong lines at the opposite side edges of 'the space between the strips .and the row of knobs and serving as buffers to prevent the knobs from having Contact with the cover.
