Description

.1. M. MARIS.
`.lar for Anatomical Specimens. No, 160,926l Patented Marhlayms.
#1s sPnc maormu'maaz HRKPLAGLNLY.
UNITED STATES y PATENT OFFICE,
JOHN M. MARIS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN JARS FIOR ANATCMICAL SPECIMENS.
S pec'flcation forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,926, dated March 16, 1875; application led February 23, m75.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. MARIS, ot' Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Jars for Anatomical and other Specimens, of Which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to so construct an exhibiting-jar that the specimen suspended therein may not be disturbed on removing the cover, and this end I attain in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure lis a vertical section of my improved jar for anatomical specimens, dmc.; and Fig. 2,
a sectional plan on the line l 2.
The jars used in laboratories, museums, &c., for the display ot' anatomical and other specimens have heretofore been so constructed that the object to be displayed had to be suspended from the 11d, so that the latter could not be removed Without disturbing the specimen.
In order to obviate this difficulty I form in the upper edge of the neck a of the jar A two recesses, b b, for the reception of the opposite ends e e of a bar, B, of glass, the shoulders ff of Which, bearing against the inside of the neck, prevent the longitudinal displacement of the har. The glass cover I) is fitted to the neck of the jar with a ground joint, as usual, but the ends ot' the bar B are free from contact with the cover, so that the latter can be moved Without disturbing the bar or the object suspended to it.
I claim as my invention- A specimen-jar in Which a bar, B, is adapted to recesses in the neck, and arranged in respect to the cover, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JOHN M. MARIS.
