This invention relates to improvements in concealed base for gas ranges and it relates to a construction in which there is a base portion, side and lront wallsand a leg, all of them being connected by the same means.
lhe primary object of this invention is to so construct the parts that the base portion is substantially wholly concealed from the outside of the range.
A. further object of the present invention is to form a base that is l... shaped in cross section, the horizontal portion of the l. extending outward and to form on the lower edges and side walls inwardly extending horizontal flanges that rest on the outwardly extending horizontal flange of the base, the parts being secured together.
A. further object of the invention is to construct a base portion that is l. shaped in cross section, the horizontal portion of the l. extendin outward and to have the side and front we ls with inwardly extending flanges, and in addition to connect a plate below the horizontal wall of the base, this plate being constructed to fit in a recess formed in the top of the log, all the parts being secured by bolts passing therethroughand into the said leg portion,
Further obiects of the resent invention is to form a ase that is shaped in cross section having the horizontal flange of the the lower edges of. the front and side walls extending 1nwardly and resting on top of the horizontal wall of the base, and to strengthen all of these arts by ,a strengthening plate located beneadh all of the plates, and into which suitable securing bolts pass. 1

lln carrying out this invention the base member is composed of a strip of metal which is L shaped in cross section. This member is composed of an outwardly extending horizontal leg portion 1 and a vertically extending leg portion 2 that is located at the inner end of the horizontal portion. This bwe portion is formed of metal, and the same is bent into angular form corresponding to the form of the range. it will be observed that the base portion A is bent into angular the angular form of the range. This is accomplished by cutting out of the horizontal flange 1 an angular opening 3. After this is cut out'and the metal a which lies inthe walls of the angular opening 3, is stretched it cuts the vertical leg 2 This portion A forms a reenforcement flange whereby the base is strengthened at its corners. It will be understood that the whole part tal flange 1 of the base could be removed and the whole strengthening member would depend upon the vertical memberfil'. By leavmg the wall a as here shown then the base is very much strengthened. That is to say after it has once been bent, then the reeniorcement flange a serves to stifi'en and hold it to its bent shape. Of course in stretching the metal a' it is at its outer edge somewhat reduced in thickness, though the reduction would be difiicult to show in a drawing except if the drawing was made on a very large scale.
Having thus formed the base member it into a shape corresponding to that of the range, the front wall 4 has its lower wall form that corresponds with of the horizontill till
which to connect and disconnect turned inward as shown at'5 and this bentin portion preferably rests on top of the horizontal leg 1 of the base A. Also the outer edge of the front wall 4 is bent rearwardly as shown at 6 (Figure 3). The side wall 7 has its lower edge 8 also bent inward and rests upon the horizontal leg 1 of the base A. The said parts in this position are provided with registering openings 9 through which screws 10 pass. These parts are united by what is aptly referred to as brace plate 11, which also has openings 12 that register with the said openings 9. At-
tention is specifically called to the fact that the openings 12 in the brace plate 11 are threaded and that the threads on the bolts engage with the plates in the said openings. The upper ends or heads 13 of the screws are made in convenient form for the reception of a screw driver or other implement by means of which the screw can be turned and thus secure the lower edges of the side and front walls and the horizontal por- For further strengthening the I v brace plate is depending flange 14. There will be a brace plate 11 at each corner of the structure and it will be observed that the plates thus serve to firmlyunite the baseA and the front and side walls of the range to the brace plate. These parts are thus held in position for handling.
4 I also utilize the screws 10 as means by the .legs 14 to the structure. Attention is directed to the fact that preferably the upper ends of the legs are provided with marginal vertically extending abutments 15 which form a recess to receive the brace plate 11, While the downwardly extending flange 14 on the brace plate 11 will fit against the inner edge 16 of the said legs. Located in this recess of the upper end of the leg are projections 17 that are 'in' the plane edge of the abutments 15. brace plate is in position, its upper face will be below the upper edge' of the abutments 15a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the flange lot the base A. Formed throng the inwardly extending flange 18 of the leg 14' are openings 19 w ich'are made sufficiently large to let the extended ends of the screws 10 pass freely through them. To the extended ends 1 of the screws are applied thumb nuts 20 by means of which the legs can be readily attached and detached from the range structure.
The front wall 4 has formed therein an opening 21 that will be of a size and shape to correspond with the 'size and shape of the door (not shown). This opening will be formed in the usual manner, that is by bending the lower edge 22 inward and out- Hence when the below the upperside edges 23 side edges are edge 22.
Preferablv in made wider than its bottom the construction shown I cut the horizontal flange 11 away as shown at 23 a distance that will fit within the legs 15 formed on the top of the leg portion.
In the construction here shown, I preferably extend the outer edges of the side walls 7 as shown at 24, the same being pressed inward as shown at 25, whereby the flanges 24 rest on the inner side of the flange 6 of the front wall.
It will be noted that the brace plate 11 has its edges out angular to correspond with the recess formed in the top of the legs and to permit the said plate portion to fit within the legs 5.
I desire it to be understood that the construction herein shown and described may be varied by those skilled in the art with out departing from the spirit and scope of a fair interpretation of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is: v
1. In a range construction, a base plate having an outwardly extending horizontal flange, side and front wallshaving their lower edges bent inward to fit the said horizontal flange, and means for securing the flanges together, whereby the base is substantially concealed within the structure.
2. A range structure .having a base L shaped in'cross sec-tion, its horizontal portion extending outward, and side and front walls having inwardly bent flanges secured to the. horizontal flange, whereby the base is-concealed within the structure.
