Description

Jun e 2 O. D'. KLEINSTEUBER MUNICIPAL SERVICE POST Filed Nov. 9. 1922 Patented June 2, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT GFFEQE.
OSCAR D. KLEINSTEUBER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNQR 01* FORTY ONE- HUNDREDTH'S T0 HUGO A. KLEINS'IEUBER, 01"
MILWAUKEE, WI$CONSINI MUNICIPAL SERVICE POST.
Application filed November 9, 1922. Serial No. 599,868.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, OsoanD. Knumsrnu- BER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Municipal Service Posts; and I do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The invention relates to improvements in municipal service posts of the type set forth in my Patent #1,165,420.
The entire device is of such nature as to be readily assembled within a post, such as illustrated in the patent. A substantially rectangular base member has a pair of rectangular supports extending upwardly therefrom and inwardly from adjacent corners with a slight inclination towards each other. A rectangular panel cooperates with these supports to form a complete co1npartment, housing a fire alarm box and com pletely partitioning it from the other features of the device.
An object of this construction is the utilizing of the space in a most economical manner. The panel is provided with means for securing it in place in such manner as to make it readily detachable, the construction facilitating an examination of the electric wires. The bottom of the panel is received in a trough U-shaped in cross section, which extends from one support to another and is effective to prevent looseness or rattling of the panel.
An important feature of this construction is the simplicity of manufacture and the extreme ease of assembly of parts. The trough structure is of such nature also as to prevent a beating in of rain into the other compartments. Outwardly directed to a side of the square base member, are a pair of parallel troughs extending perpendicularly from the aforesaid trough and U-shaped in cross section. These troughs are adapted to receive a pair of panels, one of which supports a police signal and telephone apparatus, while the other carries telephone apparatus for the use of municipal oflicia-ls and employees.
A bracket is provided for gripping the tops of the three panels in their assembled position and holding them rigid. Each of these panels operates to form a distinct compartment, acting as a partition.
An important feature of the structure is the ready assembly of the various panels into position and the extreme simplicity of the parts cooperating to that effect.
Again, the structure is adapted to pre elude all rattling and looseness of parts.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a cross section on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Base member 10 is substantially square but cut away at the corners. Rectangular supports 11-11 are made rigid therewith by L shaped brackets 12, secured by suitable means, as bolt 13. The supports extend in vertical planes and are directed inwardly somewhat towards each other. A panel 14 rectangular in shape is adapted to cooperate with supports 11 with which it contacts to form a complete compartment.
A trough 15, U-shaped in cross section, receives the bottom of panel 14 and prevents movement thereof in the plane of the base member 10 and supportsll -ll have defor- I mations 16 -16 in close contaetual relation-- ship with panel 14;. From these deformations lugs 17-17 having openings 18-18, extend and panel 14 is provided with bolts or other suitable means19-19 adapted to be received in the upper portion of open ings 1818 respectively, and moved downwardly therein to hold the panel in rigid position, the heads 2020 of the bolts being incapable of transverse movement through the lower part of openings 18-18.
A fire alarm box 21 is suitably secured to the front of the panel let. A bracket is provided for gripping the top of panel 1-1. It has an elongated horizontal portion 22, having a downwardly directed front flange 23 and three downwardly directed rear flanges 24. Arms 2525 are rearwardly extended from horizontal portion 22 and provided with flanges 26-26, 2727. A panel 28 is adapted to be gripped at its top by flanges 26-26, and its bottom is received in trough 29 secured rigid with base member 10 by means of pins 30. Panel 31 similarly is adapted to be received in corresponding flanges on the bracket, and in a similartrough 32. Panel 31 supports telephone apparatus 33 for the use of municipal officials and employees, and panel 28 supports a police signal and telephone apparatus 34:. In assembling the members in position, panel 14: may be positioned in trough 15 and the heads 21 engaged in openings 1818. Panels 28 and 31 may then be placed in troughs 29 and 32 with their ends abutting against panel 1a and the bracket may be placed in position with its downwardly projected flanges holding the various parts rigid.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that the present invention is not confined to such specific embodiment, but may be otherwise embodied within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the following claims, and it will further be understood that a substantial range of equivalence is contemplated.
I claim:
A device for insertion into the compartment of a municipal service post, said device having transverse and longitudinal panel units provided with signalling devices, a base having a transverse trough for\ receiving said transverse panel unit and having a pair of troughs extending outwardly with reference to said first mentioned trough and adapted to receive the longitudinal panel units with one vertical edge of each abutting a face of said transverse panel, means for releasably locking said transverse panel in place, and a spider bracket having a channel for receiving the upper edge of said transverse panel and having means for holding the upper end of; each of saidlongitudinal panels.
- In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of @Visconsin.
OSCAR D. KLEINSTEUBER.
