SHOE BINDING.
Application filed May 20, 1925. Serial No. 31,622.
rIlhis invention relates to improvements in shoe bindings and has for itsprincipal object to provide a binding for the edges of the upper and the straps of woinens shoes.
In the manufacture of womens shoes of a very good quality, it is customarj7 to form what is known as a French cord7 edge on the edges of the upper andthe strap. The method by which a French cord edge is usually formed involves considerable exn pense as well as considerable time. One of the important objects of the present invention is to provide an imitation French cord edge which will present a neat Aand attractive appearance when attached to a shoe, the shoe binding embodying my invention being very inexpensive, and further of such construc-Y tion as to facilitate the securing of the same very easily and readily on a shoe.
A still further object is to provide a shoe binding of the above mentioned character which may be attached to the edges and the straps in such a manner as to cause no discomfort to the wearer, the binding being strong and durable, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which it is designed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals designate like parts throughoutthc views:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a ladys shoe showing my improved shoe binding associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary enlarged side elevation of the shoe binding attached to the upper edge of the upper of a shoe with parts broken away to illustrate the cord, and
Figure 3 is a vertical section taken ap- 15 proximately on line 3 3 of Figure 2.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates generally my improved shoe binding, the sam-e comprising the ordinary galloon, flat tape,'or ribbon 2. The galloon is folded longitudinally, and adapted to be disposed withinthe fold is the cord 3.
The folds 4C and 5 respectively of the galloon 2 are adapted to extend over the upper edge of the upper A of a ladys shoe as well as over the edges of the strap thereof. In this manner, the fold t will be disposed adjacent the inner side of the leather material from which the upper A is formed while the fold 5 will be disposed adjacent the outer sides of the upper, as is more clearly illustrated in Figure 8.
The cord 3 will also be disposed on the outer side of the material from which the upper A of the shoepis formed, and is preferably arranged adjacent the upper edge of the upper. This is also more clearly illustrated in Figure 3. With the parts of the shoe binding as above described disposed over the edges of the upper and straps of a shoe, the folds of the binding are stitched to the material forming the upper as Well as the straps by the stitching illustrated at 6. The stitching G will hold the cord Sin proper position adjacent the upper edge of the upper so that the shoe binding will form a beaded, or rounded edge, projecting from the outer side of the upper as well as the straps of the shoe adjacent the edges thereof, thus giving the appearance as the form of the French cord edge which has heretofore been used in finishing the edge of womens shoes of a high grade quality. By forming the bead on the outside of the material from which the upper and straps are formed, adjacent the edges thereof, the shoe bindings will in no way cause any discomfort to the wearer. A shoe binding of the above mentioned character may be easily and readily attached on a shoe and will furthermore be very inexpensive.
llVhile I have shown the preferred embodiment of the invention it is to be under stood that minor changes coming within the field of invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
sin!
Having thus described the inventiomwhet I Gleim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l A shoe binding comprisingl e gelloon folded longitudinally over the upper edge of the upper of the shoe, the folds being stitched to tbe opposite Sides of the upper, and :i `cord disposed Within the folded galloon between the outer side of the upper and the outermost foldJ the oord beingfurther disposed between the folded portion of the gelloon Vand the stitching and extending longitudinally `:ilong the upper, adjacent the upper edge thereof to provide arounded or beaded edge.
In testimony whereof I eiiix my signature.
