WIRE HANGER.
Application filed January 13, 1925. Serial No. 2,229.
This invention relates to an improved hanger of the general character disclosed in my bo-pending application for wire hanger filed January 13, 1925, Serial No. 2228. v
The invention seeks to provide a hanger embodying relatively shittable jaw members having pairs of coacting jaws to engage separate wires. and wherein said members will be provided with coacting dove-tailed flanges and tongues for wedging the jaw members together as said members are shifted, and confining the wires between the aws.
Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my 11nproved hanger.
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 2 -2 of Figure 3, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View on the line of Figure 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3, but showing the use of an insulator in connection with the hanger.
In carrying the invention into effect, Iemploy companion aw members embodying a pair of coacting oblong lower jaws l0 and 11 and. a pair'ot' enacting arcuate upper jaws 12 and 13 integrally formed on the jaws and 11 to medially upstand therefrom. At their lower margins, the jaws 10 and 11 are grooved to accommodate a tIOllQX/ WIIG, as conventionally illustrated at 14, while above the groove therein, the jaws are hollow, and projecting inwardly from the side wall of the jaw 10 are spaced horizontal tongues 15 having dovetailed heads 16 inclined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the jaw. Formed in the side wall of the jaw 10 at opposite sides of the tongues 15 are openings 17. The side wall of the jaw 1 is also provided with longitudinally spaced openings 18 and formed on said side wall at opposite sides of each of said openings are pairs of flanges 19 having overhanging lips 20 shaped to fit the heads 16 of the tongues 15 and inclined correspondingly.
The jaws 12 and 13 are somewhat shorter than the jaws 10 and 11 and formed on the jaw 12 is an upstanding sleeve 21 overhanging the jaw 13. This sleeve is internally threaded to accommodate an insulator stud, as conventionally illustrated at 22. In the drawings, Ihave shown a conventional cable 24 in positionbetween. the jaws 12 and 13. Integrally formed on thejaw members medially thereof are outstanding. reinforcing. ribs 25, one of which extends across the sleeve 21. These ribs will thus serve to rigidly brace the jaw members and, as will be observed, the ribs gradually increase in height to the horizontal center line of the. jaws 12 and 13.
In use, the sleeve. 21 is first screwed upon the stud 22 for rigidly mounting onev of the jaw members, when the wire 14 and cable 24: are brought into position and the other jaw member assembled with the fixed jaw member. This is, of course, accomplished by shifting the free jaw member endwise relative to the fixed aw member and, as will be at once understood, the jaw members will, as the free jaw member is thus shifted, be wedged together for tightly binding the wire 14 between the jaws 10 and 11 o-fthe members as well as also tightly confining the cable 24 between the jaws l2jand 13 of the members. The hanger will thus provide a secure and rigid support for the trolley wire as well as the cable and, preferably, the head of one of the tongues 15 and the lip; of one of the flanges 19 are provided. withregistering openings to receive a cotter pin 26 so that the jaws are thus locked together. As will be seen, the cable 24 is mechanically and electrically connected by the hanger with the trolley wire so that current will be supplied from the cable to said wire through the hanger.
In Figure 4 of the drawings, I have illustrated the use of an insulator 27 in connection with a cable 28, this cable corresponding to the cable 24 but being of less diameter. The insulator is arranged to extend between the jaws 1.2 and 13, surrounding the cable, and thus serves to insulate the cable with respect to the hanger- Accordingly, the ca- 316 may be employed in a circuit separate and distinct from the circuit of the trolley wire.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
l. A hanger of the character described including companion relatively shiftable jaw members having coacting wire engaging jaws, means carried by one of the members defining an inclined dove-tailed slot, and a tongue carried by the other of the members A device adapted to be used for removing a Wheel from an axle upon Which it is keyed comprising a body provided at its opposite ends With alined sockets of different sizes, and anvil plugs fitting in the sockets.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
