To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, REUBEN B.'BENJA MIN and ERNST G. K. ANDERSON, both citizens oi the United States, and both residing at Chicago, in the county of Cookand State of Illinois, have jointly invented new and useful Improvements in Binding-Terminals, of which the following is a full, clear, concisc, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to binding terminals.
One of the objects of our invention is to provide a binding terminal which will be simple in construction, and durable and eflicient in use.
In the drawings, in which two embodiments of our invention are shown;

Referring now to the drawings in detail and particularly to Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the receptacle here shown comprises an insulating base 10, shell and center contacts 11 and 12 supported on the base 10, and binding terminals 13 and 14 for the center and shell contacts, respectively. These binding terminals 13 and 14 are substantially similar and each comprises a tubular sheet metal member 15 forming an eyelet, a screw 16 extending within this eyelet and a nut 17 for the screw 16 slidably and non-rotatably mounted in the eyelet for engaging the bared end 18 of the leading-in wire. The eyelet 15 has a reduced neck portion 19 extending through its corresponding contact and is flanged over at 20 for securely connecting it to its contact.
The eyelet 15 is provided with a tapering outwardly bulged portion 21 to receive the bared end 18 of the conductor and to hold it in inclined position with respect to the axis of the screw 16. For supporting and positioning the eyelet 15 with respect to the base 10 the eyelet is provided with a pair of laterally extending ears 22 for engage- 21 to hold it securely and to effect agood contact between the eyelet and. the bared end of the conductor. The reduced neck portion 19 may serve as a stop to limit the distance to which the bared end of the conductor can be inserted in the eyelet.
The binding terminal of Figs. 4., 5 and 6 comprises a tapered sheet metal member or eyelet 23 elliptical in cross section, as shown in Fig. i, a nut 24 held from rotation and also held from longitudinal movement with respect to the eyelet 23, and a screw 25 threaded into the nut 24: and having a tapered head 26 hearing on the eyelet 23 for engaging the bared end 27 of the leading-in wire. To prevent rotation of the nut 24 it may be provided with an extension 28 located in the recess 29 in the insulating base 30. The eyelet may be flanged over at 31 to electrically and mechanically connect it to a conductor 32. To secure a conductor to this binding terminal the screw 25 is backed ofi sufficiently to permit the insertion of the bared end 27 of the wire and the screw is then tightened down until the head 26 engages the bared end 27 of the wire to force it firmly against the tapered eyelet 23 securely holding it and forming a good electrical contact.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A binding terminal comprising a member having a tapering passage therethrough, and two interengaging threaded members, one of said members being movable longitudinally in said passage, and slidable along one wall thereof, whereby said wall forms a backing for said member, and the other member being held from movement longitudinally of said passage, whereby relative rotation of said members will cause said movable member to move longitudinally in said passage; there being space between the wall of the tapering passage and the movable member to receive the end of a conductor, relative rotation of said two interengaging threaded members causing the conductor to be wedged between the longi tudinally movable member and the wall of said tapering passage.
2. A bindmg-terminal comprising a tubular member having a tapering passage therethrough, a nut movable longitudinally in said passage and slidable along one wall thereof whereby said wall forms a backing for said wedge member, there being space between the opposite wall of said passage and said nut to receive the end of a conductor, and a screw extending longitudinally of said passage and threaded into said nut for moving said nut longitudinally in said passage.
3. A binding-terminal comprising a tubular member having a tapering passage therethrough, and a threaded wedge member movable longitudinally in said passage and slidable along one wall thereof whereby said wall forms a backing for said wedge memher, there being space between the o posite wall of said tapering passa and sai wedge member to receive the en of a conductor, said tubular member having a reduced neck portion to limit the distance to which the conductor can be inserted longitudinally in said tubular member.
4. In a device of the class described, an insulating base,- a contact supported thereby, said contact and base having registering apertures, means for smuring said contact to said base comprising a tubular metal member extending through said apertures, and means within said tubular metal member for securing a conductor therein comprising a threaded member, movable longitudinally in said tubular member.
