Application filed June 30, 1925.
'f stove top for admitting air to the stove,
there being a damper at the smoke outlet which is so coupled with the check that when said check is opened the damper is closed and vice versa.
A further object is to provide a check which can be actuated by an ordinary cover lifter.
A still further object is to provide a structure of this character which is simple, -durable and compact and will not readily get out or order, the same being adapted to operate freely either to open or close the damper.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Tn the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings,
Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a stove having the present improvements combined therewith.
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3 Figure 2.
Figure a is a section on line -i Figure 2.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference l designates a portion of a stove top, the same being provided with a circular depression 2 the bottom of' which is formed with an annular series of segmental apertures 3. This depression has an extension 1l formed with an arcuate slot 5 in the bottom thereof which is concentric with the center of the circular depression 2. A disk 6 fits snugly within the depression 2 and is pivotally connected to the stove top l by any suitable means, such as a bolt 7 as shown. This disk has an annular series of segmental apertures 8 so located and proportioned that when the disk is rotated to one position the apertures 8 will register with the apertures lwwhereas, when the disk is rotated to another position, the apertures 3 and 8 will be out of register. An arm 9 extends Serial No. 40,593.
radially from the disk 6 and works within they extension 4 of the recess. W hen this arm isl in one extreme position it points to* the word check or its equivalent cast or otherwise displayed on this stove top. When the arm is moved to its other extreme position it points to the word bake or its equivalent also cast or otherwise displayed on the stove top. When the arm 9 is pointing to the word check the apertures 3 and 8 are in register but when the arm points to the word bake the apertures are closed.
A lug 10 is extended downwardly from the arm 9 and is adapted to work freely within the slot 5. This lug extends loosely into an eye 11 provided at one end of a link 12. The lug is held in the eye by means of a cotter pin or the like. The other end of the link 12 is provided with an elongated eye 14; in which is pivotally mounted a wrist pin 15 extending from a crank arm 16. This wrist pin has an elongated head 17 which normally retains the wrist pin in the eye 14. By moving the link 12 to a position' remote from that occupied by it while in use, it becomes possible yto insert the elongated head 17 through the eye 1li. As long as the link is connected at the opposite end, however, the parts cannot be detached as will be obvious by referring to Figure 4f.
The crank arm 16 is provided at one end of a trunnion 17 located at one end of a damper 18. This damper extends across the smoke outlet 19 of the stove and has another trunnion 20 at its other end constituting a support therefor. A stop lug 21 is provided at the smoke outlet for limiting the rotation of the damper.
The parts are so arranged and prop-ore:
tioned that when the check disk 6 is opened as shown in Figure 1, the damper 18 is closed against the stop lug 21 as shown in Figure 2. By means of a stove lid lifter the arm 9 can be shifted away from the position shown in Figure 1 to its other eXtreme position, thus closing the openings 3. This will result in the link 12 thrusting against the wrist pin 15 and causing the crank arm 16 to rotate the damper 18 to open position as indicated by dotted lines in Figure 4. By shifting arm 9 back to its initial position, the damper 18 will be closed, as will be obvious.
Tt will be noted that the damper operating mechanism is all located beneath the stove top where it is concealed and the mechanism does not in any Way detract from the appearanee of the stove. The mechanism is very simple and will not get out of order and is advantageous because of the ease With which it can be operated.
What is claimed is:
The combination With a stove top having a depression provided With apertures, and a smoke outlet below the top, of a check damper inovably mounted VWithin the depression, an actuating arm extending from the Cheekl damper and movable Within the depression, a smoke damper'inovahly mounted Within the smoke outlet,` a lug projecting from the arm and through the top, there heing a slot in said topV to receive the lug, and means for transmitting motion from the arm to the smoke damper to open and close the damper When the cheek damper is opened and closed, respectively.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afxed my signature.
