Description

j Nov. 16 1926. 1,606,784 I C. L. HINES COMBINATION BLACKBOARD AND TABLE Filed March 1926 Fatented Nov. 15, 1926.
UNITED STATES CHARLES LEE HINES, OF COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA.
COMBINATION BLACKBOARD AND TABLE.
Application filed March 1, 1926. Serial No. 91,375.
This invention relates to a combination of a blackboard and table and its principal object is to provide a comparatively light and substantial blackboard .and table for the use of children.v
In the drawing Figure 1 is a frontal elevation of the blackboard showing the table in a raised position.
Figure 2 is a rear elevation of the blackboard showing the table in a lowered position.
Figure 3 is a vertical section of the device taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
In constructing and assembling the .elements of my invention I provide a primary frame 1 which is made of a light and substantial wood, such as white pine or cypress. The frame 1 is provided with a medial brace 2 recessed as shown at 3 for the purpose of retaining chalk 0r crayons. A light board or heavy paste board 4 is secured to the upper rear side of the frame 1, that is to say the side adjacent the recess 3. The front of the board or paste board a is perfectly smooth and painted or otherwise colored black. A support 5 comprising uprights 6 and cross pieces 7 is pivotally secured to the upper end of the frame 1 by means of a cross piece 8 which is passed thru the said upper end of the frame 1 in front of the board 1. A pivot rod 9 is passed thru the approximate center of the frame 1 be neath the brace 2 and has a tie brace 10 pivoted thereon. The said tie brace 10 is notched as shown at 11 and 12. The notched ends 11 of the brace 10 are adapted to engage the central cross piece 7 while the notches 12 are providedfor clearance purposes in folding the device. A table top 13 secured to brace bars 14 is pivoted on the pivot rod 9 adjacent the inner sides of the tie brace 10. The brace bars 14 are notched as shown at 15 and 16 and are adapted to engage a table support 17, which comprises two relatively short supporting bars 18 and a tie rod 19, with the notches 15, while the notches 16 are provided for clearance purposes when folding the table down against the side of the said frame 1. The supporting bars 18 are pivoted to the said frame 1 by means of pivots 20. The device as a whole when thus constructed and assembled is neatly finished in any desired color.
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a. combination toy blackboard and table as described, the combination with a frame carrying a rigidly secured blackboard and a support pivoted to said frame, of a recessed brace secured in said frame, a pivot rod secured in said frame, a tie brace pivoted on said pivot rod engaging said support, a. table top provided with notched brace bars pivoted on said pivot rod, adjacent said tie brace, and a table support pivoted to said frame engaging the notched portion of said brace bars.
2. In a combined desk and blackboard, the combination, with a frame, a blackboard positioned on said frame, a. frame support foldably positioned on said frame and a table top foldably positioned on said frame, of a pivot rod passed through said frame medially thereof, a cross piece positioned transversely said support frame medially thereof, tie braces mounted on said pivot rod and adapted to releasably engage said cross piece; a cross piece positioned transversely said frame near the upper end there of and adapted to have the said frame support pivotally mounted thereon, brace bars pivotally mounted on said pivot rod and having said table top secured thereon; supporting bars pivoted to said frame below said pivot rod; and a tie rod passed through the free ends of said supporting bars and adapted to releasably engage the under side CHARLES LEE HINES.
