construction and may be sold at a nominal cost and which in addition, is reliable in operation with the parts so held in assembled posit-ion as to permit of their ready renewal when necessary.

iVith the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation ofa toy gun constructed in accordance with the invention.

Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a section on the line 33 of Figure 1.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary view partly in section and partly in elevation showing a slightly different form of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates the stock of the gun which carries a barrel 11, the said stock and barrel being made of any suitable material. The stock is preferably provided at one end with a seatto receive the inner end of the barrel while extending from this seat is a longitudinally disposed guide groove 12 which slidingly receives a tongue 13 carried by a breech block 14:.

Extending from the breech block is a plunger 15 which operates within the inner end of the barrel 11, inward movement of this plunger being limited by shoulders 16 provided at the juncture of the plunger and block.

Various means may be provided for ac-- tuating the plunger and in Figures 1, 9 and 3, this means consists of an elastic band 17 which extends around one end of the stock 11 and is seated within a notch 18 provided across the outer end of the block 14. EX-

tending over the barrel and upon opposite sides of the stock. 10 is a U bolt 19 which also extends over the elastic band, the ends of the bolt 19 being connected by a strap 20. The bolt 19 thus provides means for holding the stock, barrel and band assembled.

In the use of the gun, the block 1 1 is manually retracted so as to tension the elastic band 17 and when the block is free, the plunger will move along the barrel 11 with sufiicient force to eject a projectile or dart 21 considerable distance.

If desired, springs 22 may be substituted for the band 17 one of these springs being located upon opposite sides of the stock and having their opposite ends connected to cross bars 23 and 24 secured respectively to the stock and block 14.

The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Having described the invention what is claimed is In a toy gun, the combination with a stock having a seat on its upper edge adjacent one end of the stock and provided with a groove from one terminal end of the seat, of a barrel secured on the stock and secured within the seat and adapted to receive a projectile, a breech block having an elongated tongue to slidably engage said groove and having a plunger protruding from the breech block and telescoping within the barrel for discharging the projectile from the barrel, when the breech block is released and allowed to slide toward the rear end of the barrel, means at the junction. where the plunger and the breech block adjoin for engaging the rear. end of the barrel to limit movement of the breech block, and means operatively connecting the rear end of the breech block and the forward end of the stock andput under tension for imparting sudden movement to the breech block and its plunger.
