Description
Nav. 9, 1926.
v 1,606,537 s. G. SEVIER 1 AFileadAugust 22, 1925 Patented Nov. 9, 1926.
UNITED STATES SAMUEL G. S-EVVIER, OF OENAVILLE, TEXAS.
BRUSH.
Application led August 22, 1925. Serial No. 51,785.
This invention relates to improvements in fountain gravity brushes and contemplates the provision of a novel form of brush to which paint and liquids may be fed and readily and easily cut .ofil therefrom when desired.
Another object of my invention resides in the peculiar and novel construction of the brush per sein providing ancasing for receiving and applying the paint to the bristles of the brush and yet providing a mounting within which the inner ends of the brush bristles may be vulcanized or cemented.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the' following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described,
illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim. In the drawing Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation of my brush.
Figure 2 isa fragmentary side elevation illustrating the structural details thereof.v
Figure 3 isa diagrammatic plan view of the elements forming my invention.
Figure 4 is a perspective of a shut oi means.
Figure 5 is afragmentary elevation of a modified form of my invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character indicates a brush head. having a handle 11 formed integrally therewith, the head in-l cluding` a vertically disposed bore 12 communicating at its upper end vwith an inlet tube 13 receiving its source of supply through a length ofresilient tubing 14' associated with `its outer'and opposite free end, the bore 12 forming an enlarged portion 15 at its lower end and adjacent the lowermost vextremity of the head 10. 'Ihe head having a substantially reduced portion 16 extending circumferentially around and adjacent its lower end, the purpose of which will be presently apparent.
` Received upon the lower reduced portion 16 of the brush head 10 is a relatively {iat tubular member 17 extending downwardly an appreciable distance below the end of the reduced portion 16 whileA the reduced correspondingly shaped relatively Hat tubular member 18 conforming with the lower enlarged portion of the vertically disp osed bore 12 within the lower reduced lportion 16 includes an apertured annularffiange v19 upon its upper periphery and secured to Ithe lower free end of the brush head 10 through thel instrumentality of fastenin elements in the form-of screws 20.
It will thus be noted from the foregoing description and accompanying drawing that Vpaint or other liquids taken from a source of supply and conducted to the tube '14, the inlet pipe 13 and downwardly within the vertically disposed bore 12 and the enlarged portion 15 communicating therewith 1n order that brush bristles 21 having their inner ends cemented, glued or. otherwise secured within the space thus defined between the tubularmembers 17 and 18.respectively may receive the paint or other liquids passing through the brush head 10 as and for the application thereof.
In order ytoprovide means and shutting 0E the supply of the liquid to be applied, a sleeve 22 is inserted within a' transversely disposed opening 23 provided in the upper portion of thebrush head 10 and communicating with a verticallv disposed bore 12 while the' sleeve 22 including registering openings 24 at diametrically opposite sides thereof for `registration with the bore 12.
Rotatably mounted within a sleeve 22 and having a vertically disposed bore 25 adapted for selective registration with the openings 2 4 provided at diametrically opposite sides of the sleeve 22 is a valve 26 having a threaded bore 27 within one end 'for receiving the threaded shank of a bolt 28 extending through a plate 29 provided upon the outer side of the brush head 10 and frictionally engaging the corresponding periphery of the sleeve 22 and end of the valve lmy invention as described and illustrated in the foregoing it is clearly apparent and manifest that paint or other liquids fed to the brush head 10 may be regulated as to the quantity to be applied to the brush for cuttingv lli.
`i? the sleeve 22 registering with the vertically disposed bore 12 of the brush head 10, according to the use to which the brush is put and the desires of the user.
n Figure of the drawing, I have illustrated a modified form of my invention contemplating the provision of a tubular mem? ber 33 arranged upon the upper portion of a brush headlO corresponding in configuration and the arrangement of the elements so associated to the showing of the form of my invention as previously described, save for thetube or pipe 13 communicating with the vertically disposed bore l2 thereof, in so tar as the tube 33 not only forms a handie but -further includes a flanged nipple 34 upon its upper end in securing a tube, as
' indicated at lli in .Figure 2 of the drawing,
thereto and applying the paint or other lieg-lA uids in a similar manner to the operation of the first mentioned form.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
vHaving described my invention what is claimed is:-
A fountain brush of the character described comprising a brush head having a vertically disposed bore therethrough terminating in a relatively enlarged portion adjacent its lower end, a relatively. flat tu bular member having an apertured annular flange provided upon its upper periphery and secured to the lower free end ot the brush head in registration with the enlarged portion ot the bore, anda flattened tube ref i ceivedupon the lower free end of the head adjacent therelatively flat tubular member and forming a pocket therebetween, and
bristles secured within the pocket.
In testimony whereof l ax myy signature.
