Application April 8, 1938, Serial No. 73,022 1 Claim. (Cl. 221-19) The present invention relates to a fountain brush especially adapted for shaving purposes, and more particularly to an improved construction thereof permitting of the control of the flow of liquid therefrom in a novel manner.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide abrush of this character in which the user may control the flow of fluid from the brush by the simple manipulation of a valve actuating means operable from the outside of the brush.
A still further important object of the invention is to provide a structure of this character, enabling the flow of fluid to be completely shut oil to the end that the brush may be packed away while traveling and the like.

In the accompanying drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration there is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the reference numeral it generally designates the cylindrical brush head, into one end of which there is securely fastened in the usual manner the shaving bristles i2. The other end as clearly illustrated in Figure l is internally threaded and has screwthreaded therein the .bulb it having a plurality of longitudinally extending spaced ribs i6. This bulb of course is constructed of resilient mateprovided with a stop member to. Within the cylinder 28 there is rotatably disposed a cylindrical valve 32 having a transverse bore adapted when properly positioned to regis- 20 ter with the apertures 30 and the passageway of the feed pipe 22.
As clearly illustrated the free ends of the'piston project beyond the free ends of the cylinder 28, one end of the cylinder being cut away as 25 clearly shown in Figure 5. The piston 32 is 36 screwthreaded therein which stop member in one position, as for example in the lowermost position as shown in Figure 6 limits the rotating movement of 30 the piston causing a registering of the transverse bore 33 therein with the apertures in the cylinder and the passageway of the feed pipe 22 to the end that the fluid from the reservoir of the bulb is directed therethrough into the passageway 22 and through the tubing 26 into the bristles i2 of the brush. The inner free end of the piston rests against the inner wall of the brush head, as clearly shown. The removal of the screwthreaded stop member from the piston permits of the valve control unit to be disassembled.
The stop member 36 in its other position abuts the cut-away portion of the cylinder, the bore 33 assuming a horizontal position out of registering position to the end that the fluid cannot pass 45 from the bulb H to the passageway 22 and consequently into the bristles.
The rotating of the cylinder is effected through the medium of a knob 40, which knob is screwthreaded into the end of the piston, and held in 5 that position by the lock washer 42.
It will thus be seen that the novelly constructed barrel may be moved to any desired position to regulate the full free flow of the fluid or any amount thereof desired or packed away for the 55 purpose of traveling the knob may be turned to move the piston to a position to shut off the supply of fluid from the passageway 22.
It will thus be seen further that there is provided a novelly constructed valve member which is simple to operate, cheap to manufacture, and which will enable through the pressure appliance to the bulb IQ of a regulated flow of shaving fluid therefrom.
While there is shown for the purpose of illustration a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be specifically understood that it is capable of various changes and modifications without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, and it is intended, therefore, that only such limitations shall be imposed thereon as are indicated in the prior art or in the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A dispensing device for brushes of the class described comprising a supporting plate having a centrally disposed aperture therein, a discharge tube secured to one side of said plate and depending therefrom and having one end registering with said aperture, a transversely extending cylindrical shaped valve receiving member secured to the other side of said plate having oppositely disposed apertures therein registering with the apertures in the plate, a cylindrical shaped valve rotatably mounted in said member having a transversely extending bore therein adapted upon rotation of said valve to be brought into and out of registration with the apertures in the cylindrical shaped valve receiving member, an operating knob secured to one end of the valve, said cylindrical valve receiving member being recessed at one end thereof defining a pair of stop abutments and a laterally extending pin secured to said valve for cooperation with the abutment for limiting the rotation of said valve member in one direction or the other.
