DRAINING DEVICE.
Application filed June 1, 1926. Serial No. 112,997.
Thisinvention relates to adraining device and has relation more particularly to a device of this kind especially designed and adapted for use in collectlng oil drained from the crank case or other parts of a motor driven vehicle. a
It is an object' of'the invention to provide a device of this kind which may be readily extended in either or both a horizontal and vertical direction in order to properly position the receiving end portion of the device with respect to the part of the vehicle to be drained.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of theseveral parts of my im-.
proved draining device whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device. rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous ior pse, as will be hereinafter more fully set ort 1.
- The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood I will now proceed to de scribe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation illustrating a draining device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, the upper end portion being indicated by broken lines in a retracted position;
Figure 2 is a view partly in section and partly in plan and of somewhat a diagrammatic character illustrating certain features of the device as herein set forth.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawing, P denotes a pit over which a motor driven vehicle is adapted to be positioned. A side wall of the pit is provided with a pair of vertically spaced parallel arms 1 extending inwardly of the pit and'which provide support for a vertically disposed tubular member or pipe 2. 1
The lower portion of the pipe '2 islatrally oflset, as at 3, and having its lower or free extremity positioned to readily discharge within a container C positioned therebelow. The pipe 2 is sectional and said sections are coupled or connected by the Ts 3' with which the arms 1 are directly engaged, thus affording a simple yet effective mounting and support for the pipe. The upper POItlOHOf the pipe 2.has in threadedengagement therewlth an ell 4 which is adapted to readily swing laterally.
The ell 4 has in threaded engagement therewith a second ell 5 adapted to have free swinging movement in a vertical direction while the ell 4 has swinging movement in a horizontal direction with respect to the pipe 2.
The ell 5 is carried by a pipe section 6."
The outer end of the section 6 carries an ell 7 inthreaded engagement with an ell8 carried by the inner end portion of a further pipe section 9. The opposite or outer end portion of this pipe section 9 is connected by the ells 10 and 11 with a further ipe section 12. The outer end ortionof t e pipe section 12 is connecte by the ells 14 and 15 with the funnel-like receiving member or intake 16. Y I
The connections between the various sections 6, 9 and 12 will be-extended 'both" horizontally and vertically and also having 1 relative swinging movement one with respectto the other so that the receiving or intake member 16 may be respect to the drain cock of I transmission case or other part of the driven vehicle positioned above the and from which it is desired to drain t -In the use of my improved draining device, after the attendant has properly posia crank case.,'.
motor 1t 1;
tioned the receiving or intake member 16,
he opens the requisite drain cock and then After the drainage'has been completed he then pours into the; oil intake of the part being drained 3, flushing oil which furnishes an oil wash and is likewise carried off through the improved device to the container C. After this second'oper'ation it is only necessary to close the drain period of draining.
cock and then apply a'new supply of lubri--- cating oil. From the foregoing descript on 1t is thought to be obvious that adralnlng devlce properly positioned with e oil. 1
can attend to his other duties during the constructedin accordance with my invention Y is particularly well adapted for-use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated,
and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modifica- ,tion without departing from the" principles the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
4 I claim A Qdraining device comprising a pipe,
10 means for supporting the same in substantially avertical position, a sectional pipe leading from the upper portion of the first named pipe, adjacent sections being in communication and having relative swinging movement in both a vertical and a horizontal direction, and a receiving member carried by the outermost section.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
EDMUND A. BRUCE.
