Description

Patented Nov. 9, 1926.
ROSE D. MURRAY, 0F SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
CLAMP SNAP.
'Application led February 14, 1923. Serial No. 618,915.
The invention is a `snap with prongs pro-l j ecting from its members by which it may be clamped tothe goods instead of being sewn.
The object of the invention is to provide a snap, the sections of which have points projecting from them that maybe pushed through the goods and then bent over to clamp the snaps in place.
Another object of the invention is to providev a snap that may instantly be applied to the goods. 'v
And a further object of the invention is to provide a snap that may have sections in the shape of points punched from it which sections may be bent back to clamp the snap to a piece of goods.
With these ends in view the invention embodies a snap the two sections of which are made with points projecting from them which may be bent down to clamp the snaps to the goods.
Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a cross section through the upper section of the snap.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the upper section.
Figure 3 is a cross section of the lower section.
Figure 4 is a plan view'of the lower section.
Figure 5 is a section showing the snaps on goods and snapped together.
In the drawings I have shown my snap as it would be constructed wherein numeral 1 indicates the upper section and numeral 2 the lower section. The upper section may be constructed as shown with an opening 3 in its center similar to that of a standard snap which receives the projection on the lower section; and points 4 projecting updesign.
points 4 may be forced through the goods and then bent downward against the body of the section so that the goods maybe clamped between them andthe section. It
will also be seen that ifdesired these points may be made 'very narrow so that they mai; be forced through the goods without cutting or breaking the threads. l
The lower section shown in Figure 3 may be made as shown with points 7 similar to the points 4 of the upper section stamped from the openings 8 in the body of the section as shown in Figure 4 or from additional material as indicated by the dotted lines 9. These points may also be of any Suitable shape or length as described for the points on the upper section. j
'I he snaps may be furnished with the points projecting straight backward as shown. Y
It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention.
of points used as it is understood that any either the upper or lower section. Another change may be in the design of the body of either of the sections as it is understood that the points may be used on 'snaps of any The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. To use the device it may be furnished as shown and' it will be seen that as the points are placed against the goods they will force their iway through it and after the `goods are firmly against the' body of ,the section the points may be bent downward against the goods, thus binding the 'material between the inner surfaces of' the prongs and the upper surface ofthe ridge formed bythe edge of the snap from which the prongs project. It will be seen that they will positively hold the sections'to the goods and it will also be seen that the snaps may be stamped onto the goods by a small machine or other automatic means and it will there` fore be possible to run a piece of goods vthrough a machineand have it come out with the snaps in place.
Having thus fully described the invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Y One of these changes may be in the number In affastening device, two circular memits outer edge with points extending perbers, means for snapping one member into pendicularly from the outer edge of the the other, one 0f the said members being said iange, the inner edge of the said curved 10 iatand having points extending perpenfiange forming a binding ridge so that ma` 5 dicularly from its base, andthe other of terial may be gripped between it and the inthe said members having its body portion ner sides of the said points. l curved and having a curved fiange around ROSE D. MURRAY.
