H. PAINTER GARMENT RETAINER F'il8d NOV. 9. 1925 WITNESS: ATroFzNEY INVENTOR Patented Nov. 2, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
HERBERT PAINTER, O15 TUCSON, ARIZONA.
GARMENT RETAINER.
Application filed November 9, 1925.
My present invention has reference to a simple, cheaply constructed and easily at tached means for preventing the skirt portion of a garment, such as a shirt or shirtwaist from creeping over the top or belt line of men or womens garments.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device for this purpose constructed of soft yieldable and preferably elastic material to include a body portion having means on the head thereof to receive a button therein and which body is formed on its outer face with a nipple that will con tact with the skirt of the inner garment and partly sink into the fleshy part of the body without injury or discomfort to the wearer of the garments.
To the attainment of the foregoing and other objects which will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference is to be hand to the drawings which accompany and form part of this application.
In the drawings 1--v Figure 1 is a sectional view showing the improvement applied to the waist band of a garment.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through the invention per se.
Figure 3 is an outer plan view thereof.
In the drawings, I have illustrated my improvement connected directly to the waist band of a garment, but it is of course to be understood that it may be attached to 35 the inner face of a belt.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the waist band of a garment. Stitched to this waist band there are button members 2, only one being shown by the drawings.
Serial No. 67,958.
The improvement comprises a soft yieldable elastic member preferably of rubber or the like and which includes a hollow body portion 3, formed at its mouth with an overlying flange 4: to grip the inner face of the button member 2, when the latter is received in the hollow body. The body, on its outer face, is formed with a neck extension which merges into a cup-shaped head 5, and this head is designed to exert a pressure against the waist of a person when the device is arranged thereon. When the-waist band is engaged by a belt or' otherwise tightly secured around the waist of the wearer the cup-shaped head 5 will contact with the skirt portion of the upper garment and exert a pressure thereagainst suflicient to force the said skirt into contact with the waist of the wearer. This contact is not sufficient to inflict injury'to the wearer even though the head 5 partly embeds itself in the flesh of the wearer.
Having described claim The combination with the waist-band of a garment having buttons sewed on the inner face thereof, of a soft yieldable elastic member including a hollow body portion formed at its mouth with an overlying flange to grip with the inner face of a butthe invention, 41
ton, when the latter is received inthe hollow body, said body having a neck extension on its outer face which merges into a cupshaped head that is designed to exert a pressure against the waist of a person upon whom the device is arranged.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HERBERT PAINTER.
