My invention relates to garment holders for general use. "It relates moreparticulaifly to such a garment'hol-der in which afabrio will be firmly and positivelyfheld. It further relates to such a garment holderin which the finest fabric will not be injured by its constant use.

I have shown my garment holder as clamping and holding"twoseparate' fabrics, as for example the top, of a 'stocking and a corset; though, of course, it may be used to clamp different portions ofthe same material, for example, as a sleeve holder 'to shorten the length of a sleeve.

My invention further relates to certain articles of manufacture, combinations, and details of construction to be more fully hereinafter described" and pointed out, in the claims.

In the form shown in Fi s. 1 and 2 the coil spring 4 permits the di erent clamping members to be moved relatively with relation to each other, to take up a sudden jar or strain. In Fig. 5 I have shown a pair of my clamping jaws rigidly secured together by means of a plate 25 and

instead of employing the resilient spring at.

In some cases instead of having the rigid base 5 and the rigid semi-circular member 8 integral I may form'these separate and secure them together by means of a screw 27, as shown in Fig. 6.

Having thus described this invention in connection with illustrative embodiments thereof, to the details of which I do not clesire to be limited, what is claimed as new and what is desired to Secure by Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claims.

What I claim is 1. A garment holder comprising a fixed jaw, a resilient pad mounted in the fixed jaw, a movable jaw, and means including a toggle lever pivoted to the'movablejaw to positively lock the movable jaw a galnst the fixed jaw .and at the same time compress more or less the resilient pad carried by the fixed jaw.

2. A garment holder comprising a fixed jaw, a resilient pad mounted 1n the fixed jaw, a jaw movable to successively parallel positions toward and away from the fixed jaw, a resilient pad carried by the movable aw, and means to positively lock the mov- V able'jaw against the fixed jaw and at the operate the toggle link to clamp the two jaws together. V 5. A garment holder comprising a clamping member provided with a fixed jaw, a

rigid semi-circular member secured to the fixed jaw, a movable aw mounted within the rigid semi-circular member, and means to positively lock the movable jaw against the fixed jaw.

6. A garment holder comprising a clamping member provided with a fixed jaw, a

rigid semi-circular memberseoured to the fixed aw, a movable jaw mounted within the rigid semi-clrcular member, and a toggle carried by the rigid semi-circular memberv adapted to positively lock the movable jaw against the fixed jaw.

7 A garment holder comprising a clamping memberprovided with a fixed jaw, a rigid semi-circular member secured to the fixed jaw and provided with a slot, a movable jaw mounted with the rigid semi-circular member, a togglelink secured to the movable jaw, a toggle lever pivoted on the rigid semi-circular member and having a handle adapted to lie in the slot of the rigid semicircular member.

8. A garment holder, con'iprising in combination relatively movable clamping jaws, one of which is slotted, toggle means for moving one of the jaws, and an operating lever connected to the toggle means for operating it, pivoted to the slotted jaw and adaptedv to be seated in the slot of said slotted j aw.

9. A garment holder, comprising in combination relatively movable clamping jaws, one of which has a gripping face of resilient material, toggle means for moving one of the jaws to successively parallel positions, toward and away from the other jaw, and means for locking the movable jaw in clamping position.

10. A garment holder, comprising in combination relatively movable clamping jaws, toggle means for moving one of the jaws to successively parallel positions, toward and away from the other jaw, and means for locking the movable jaw in clamping position.

11. A garment holder, comprising in combination relatively movable clamping jaws, means including toggle mechanism and a bell crank for moving one of the jaws to sue cessively parallel posit-ions, toward and away from the other jaw, and means for locking the movable jaw in clamping position.
