Neatly fitted within the li e casing-i9 is a sliding block 13,, provided with a cavity 14, this cavity having an extending portion in the form of an undercut, as indicated in Figures '1 and 4. The sliding block 13 carries a pair of pintles 17, 18, provided with h eadsy19 andr20, and the pintle 17 is en- ClI'ClG'd byv a compression spring 16. With the various parts in position, as indicated 1n Figure 1, the spring 16 presses the slide casing 9 and the sliding block 13 in opposite directions.
a The slide casing 9 carries a screw 21 and a numberof rounded teeth 22. Mating the screw 21 is a stem 23, having a substantially cylindrical form and threaded internally,
this stem being carried by a gripping plate 24, the latter being provided with rounded teeth 25. The gripping plate 24 isprovided with teeth 26. A lever 27 is used in connection' with the gripping plate 24, and is provided with a jaw 28, having teeth 29 mating the teeth ,26.- The jaw 28' has in this instance. an ornamental form. yThe lever 27 is provided with a pairof ears 30, and the gripping plate 24 is provided with a pair of'ears 31. A pivotpin 32-extends through the ears 30 and 31 vas indicated in Figure 3, and encircling this pivot pin is a torsion spring 33. This torsion spring tends to force the teeth 29'toward or against the teeth 26 when the parts are in the position indicated in Figure 6. r l A locking plate 34 is provided with a knob 35 projectingfrom it, and with a screw 36'which maybe integral'with it. The locking plate 34 is furtherlprovided with a numi nected together by a pivot pin 47, similar to the pivot pin 32 above described, these parts "being otherwise connected as indicated in Figure 3: Y 7 a. 1 I I A shirt sleeve is shown at 48, and mounted upon it by aid of myinvention is a cuff 49. :1 My improved cuff holder, considered with as shown in Figure 8, these two parts being essentially the two portions of a snap fastener. In order to secure these two parts together, or in other words to close the snap fastener, the locking plate 34 is brought into close proximity with the slide casing 9, the knob 35 being passed down through the hole 12 and into the cavity 14:. To facilitate this step, the'operator can press withhis finger or thumb against the head 20, thus compressing the spring 16 and moving the sliding block 13 a little, relatively to the slide casing 9. This enables the knob 35 to snap into position, so that it extends out into and fills the undercut 15. This looks together the two principal parts of my device, and thus locked they cannot be separated except by the operator again pressing upon the head 20. If for any reason, such for instance as undue wear upon the spring 16 resulting in its becoming weak, the sliding block 13 does not move sufficiently to enable the knob 35 to fit neatly into the undercut 15, the operator by pressing upon the head 17 and instantly bring the parts into proper adjustment.
As regards the manner of fastening the two principal parts shown in Figure 8 upon the ends of a cuff, the procedure is essentially the same-for each of the two parts,
andtherefore I will describe it for only one. The gripping plate 39 is by hand rotated relatively to the locking plate 34 so, as to disconnect the screw 36 from the stem 38. The stem 38 is then extended through the proper button hole or button holes of the cuff alone, if the cuff is permanently secured to the shirt sleeve, or to the cuff and'wrist-band if the cuff is separate from the sleeve, as the case may be. This done, the screw 36 is inserted into the stem 38, and the gripping plate 39. is thereupon turn-ed relatively to the locking plate 34 until the stem138 jams firmly against the locking plate. 7
To take off the cuff holder the process is reversed, thepgripping plate 39 being turned relatively to the locking plate 34 until the screw 36 is disconnected from the stem 38;
Insome instances the two principal parts of my device, shown moreparticularly in Figure 8, are used for holding the shirt sleeves in folded position, as indicated in Figure 9. For this purpose the two parts of the cuff holder are separated, and each of them is caused to grip the upper portion of the sleeve, near the shoulder thereof. For this purposethe levers 27 and 12 aremoved by hand so as to cause the jaws of each pair to move apart, these aws are placed in position upon the upper portion of the sleeve and allowed to grip the same so as to sup- "port the sleeve and cuff as indicated in Fig ure 9. It ,will be noted that with the sleeve turned back and supportedas just described, the sleeve is not rolled up but rather is folded back. This avoids undue wrinkling to secure said of the sleeve, and also promotes the comfort of the wearerand improves the general appearance of the sleeve and cuff.
By the use of the screws 31 and 26 and hollow stems 23 and 38 mating the same, the cuff holder is secured very firmly in position relatively to the. cuff, and this purpose is facilitated by use of the rounded teeth 22, 25,

The cufl' holder as a whole is rendered more efficient inholding together the two ends of the cuff, by reason of the fact that the knob 35 cannot be easily pulled. out of place when the parts are in position indicated in Figure 1.
I do not limit myself to the precise construction shown as variations may be made therein without departing from my invention, the scope of which is commensurate with my claim.
Having thus I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:
