socK-rUnLEnQ 1 To all whom itmay concern:
Be it known thatI, ANDREW Din LE1, a citizen of the United States, residing lat of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for helping an invalid to put on wearing apparel and has for its primary object to provide a sock puller by means of which a person may pull a sock onto the foot in the proper manner.
An object of the invention is to provide mechanical means for gripping and holding expanded, the open end of a sock so that the foot may be readily inserted into the sock, means also being provided for pulling the sock in the required direction.
Besides the above my invention is distinguished in a pair of supporters for engaging the interior of a sock and holding the same expanded and independently operated clamps for positively holding the sock in engagement with the supporters.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention. 1
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of the supporters.
Fig. 3 is a detailed Side elevation thereof.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating one of the many forms in which the invention may be constructed, the numerals 1 and 2 designate a pair of handle memberseach having a pivotal connection 3 with a strut 4: so that when the handles 5 are gripped, the outer end of the members may be moved away from each other against the tension of the spring 6. The numerals 7 nd 8 designate a pair of supporters of arcuate shape and of a proper size to engage within the open end of a sock and expand the same when pressure is applied to the hen dles 5. For the purpose of accomplishing the proper movement of the supporters 7 and 8, each has rigidly connected thereto a link 9, the other end of which is pivotally connected to the strut t as indicated at 10. The intermediate portion of the link is connected by a lug 11 to a pin 12 in the handle memher so as to give the proper arcuate movement to the link.
Specification of Iiettersi latent.
Application new 31. 1919. Serial 110.301.115.
Patented Sept. 2, 1919.
As far as I have proceeded it will be seen that the supporters may be moved toward and away from each other for expanding Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sock-Pullers,
and holding in open condition, the entrance of a sock and for the purpose of effectively holding the sock in engagement with the supporters when the sock is being pulled upon the foot of the wearer, I provide clamping means now to be described.
Each supporter has cooperating therewith, clamping means consisting of a clamp 13 in the form of a hook slidably mounted 1n an apertured ear 14 formed on the link. This clamp 13 has a pivotal connection with one limb of a lever 15 that is pivotally mounted on the link with its other end pivotally connected to the rod 16 slidably mounted in the handle members and terminating in a finger piece 17.
In the operation of the device the end of the sock is arranged over the supporter and then pressure applied to the handles 5 so as to expand the sock. After this takes place the rods 16 are manipulated for clamping the sock to the supporters. By referring to Fig. 3, it will be seen that the supporters are slightly oif-set so that the foot of the wearer may be readily inserted into the sock. After the parts are arranged as stated it is very easy for the user to pull in the proper direction the handle members for pulling the sock onto the foot.
It is of course to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the different parts associated in other relation therefore I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A sock puller comprising a pair of supporters adapted to be inserted into a sock and movable toward and away from each other, and means for releasably securing a sock over said supporters.
2. A sock puller comprising a pair of supporters adapted to be inserted into a sock and movable toward and away from each other, and means associated with said supporters for gripping the sock.
3. A sock puller comprising pivoted handle members, a pair of sock supporters movable to an operative or inoperative position upon movement of said members, and clamping means cooperating with said supporters.
4:. A sock puller comprising a pair of hanporter having connection with the handle dle members pivoted for movement toward to be operated thereby for separating the and away from each otl1er,a pair of supsupporters, a clamp mounted for movement porters mounted for pivotal movement and on each link, a lever operating the Same and 5 operated by the handle members and a clamp a rod connected to said lever and passing 15 for each supporter independently operated. through a handle member whereby the lever 5.4A sock puller comprising a pair of may be operated.
