CANDY VENDER.
Application f led September 17, 1824.
The present invention relates to improvements in vending devices for articles of merchandise and has been particular y designed to be used as a vender for candy. T he device to be described in this application may be used in conne -ti .i with the device described in iny feo-pending application rial llumber 706,62@ and lends itself very vremlilv to such use as will appear from the drawings in this application. The particular object of the present invention is to provide a means by which candy of different kinds may be conveniently displayed in different compartments so to be inaccessible to a stranger but which compartment may be readily made accessible to the salesman. lt is proposed to utilize for this purpose a revolving- 'table or platform having' radial partitions thereon forming circumferential compartments which are closed at their outer ends, preferably b y means of transparent plates and to provide in conjunction therewith a stationary cover which renders the compartments inaccessible to a purchaser standing outside of the counter on which my device rests, while any one of the compartments may be made to register with an opening disposed in the cover and to be readily accessible for the clerk standing inside of the counter. Further advantages and features of my device will appear as the speciiication proceeds.
The preferred form of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l shows a side elevation of my de-` vice with the candy vender of the prior application attached thereto;
Figure 2 a top plan view of the device shown in Figure l; u
Figure 3 a vertical section taken along the line lll-lll of Figure 2, and
Figure 4 a horizontal section taken along line lVl'V of Figure l.
lllhile l have shown only the preferred form of the invention, it should be understood that various changes or modifications may be made within the scope of the claim hereto attached without departing from the spirit of the invention. A cross-shaped base l is made to rest on any suitable support such as the counter in a candy store. A stem 2 rises vertically from the center of the cross and a platform 3 is made to revolve on the same, a suitable anti-friction bearing i being interposed between the platform 3 and Serial No. 738,239.
the base. rlhe platform has a plurality of radial partitions 6 rising therefrom, which latter are preerably arranged symmetrically so as to form sector-like chambers i', the inner ends of which are defined by the walls S while the outer circumferential ends of the compartments are closed by preferably transpagent plates 9 adapted to be slid clowii\*-.iai'clly in vertical grooves ll in the partitions. The grooves are disposed in such a manner that portions l2 of the partitions project beyond the plates 9 allowing of the easy manipulation of the platform.
The cover i3 for the compartments is made of two concentric rings li and 16 and radial elements i7 holding the same in spaced relation. rlhe spaces between the radial members i7 are filled with glass plates 1.8, the edges of which are accommodated in grooves i9 in the rings i4- and 16 and the radial`eleinents 17. One of the spaces is left open as shown at 2l, and through this opening access may be had to the compartment which happens to register f'ith the opening. rlhe cover is supported stationarily by means of legs 22 extending downwardly from the cuter ring 16, the lower ends of the legs being fastenedto the ends of the cross shaped base by means of screws 23. The legs are of sufficient length to hold the cover 13 in spaced relation to the top of the partitions 6.
The polygonal space 24E on the inside of the walls S is preferably covered by means of the plate 26 provided with a concentric projection 27 extending through the inner ring 14, and the vending device 28, described in my co-pending application, previously referred to, may be placed on this projection 27 so as to revolve with the con'ipartments 7.
ln use the device is placed on the counter over which goeds are to be sold, in such a manner that the opening 2l in the cover is disposed so as to be accessible to the clerk selling` the goods but not to the general public. rlfhe compartments are filled with candy of various lrinds and the prices are preferably noted on the outer plates 9 in, the manner indicated in the drawings. Any person desiring to select candy may freely revolve the platform by pushing on the projecting ends of the partition 6 so that the contents of each compartment may be viewed through the glass cover as well as through the transparent outer walls 9. The
contents of the compartment, however, are not accessible to the purchaser, and, it he Wishes to buy candy out of any compartment, he has to relier to the clerk who will bring that particular compartment into registry with the opening in the cover and then Withdraw the desired candy to hand it to the purchaser. lt will be noted that the revolving of the platform with the coinaartnients thereon does not affect the cover which remains stationary at all times and this is so even when the device illustrated in lny prior application is used in connection With the present invention, since the latter device is merely placed on top ot the member 27 so that it is caused to revolve with the compartments Without, in any Way, interfering With the stationary cover 18.
I claim:
In a vending` machine or' the character described, va hase, a platform revolvable thereon having radial partitions forming sectorial compartments on the saine, trans parent means 'for closing the outer ends or the compartments, a plate resting on the inner ends of the partitions having a reduced upward projection, a ring-shaped transparent cover surroundingthe projection and overlying' the rirn of the plate having' legs extending; downwardly troni its outer edge and means for securing the lovfer ends ci the legs to the hase for supporting` the cover in spaced relation to the plate and the top of the partitions the cofer heine` formed; with an openingallowingq articles to lie removed therethrough troni any one of the compartments after the latter has heen made to register with the opening` and the plate projection serving; as a support tor a superstructure revolving with the platform While the cover remains stationary.
