The object of the present invention is a process of producinga diflicultlyfusible porcelain. There are porcelain masses known consisting of kaolin, clay, silica and feldspar as a Flux, but these masses have a relatively low melting point on account of the large proportions of alkalis contained in the feldspar. w The resent process, however, refers. to a metho of producing a new porcelain mass possessing increasing resistance to heat. replace the feldspar. of the known mixtures by a flux consisting essentially of alum num fluosilicate. This porcelain being iformod to thedesired shape, dried and burned. The chemical formulae are as follows:
' The known mixture consists of clay 1 (kaolin) :Al O QSiO QH O and silica-:SiO and feldsparzK OAl O tiiiiiO Na 0Al 0 6SiO Accordin to my invention the feldspar is replaced by a flux consisting essentially of aluminum fiuosilicatezAl FfiSiF To accomplish this end, I
These porcelain substances are mixed with Water and kneaded into a plastic paste as required in porcelain manufacture. Out of this paste the ware of any desired shape is formed, allowed to dry and then baked in an ordinary porcelain furnace at a temperature of approximately 23702540 Fahrenheit. During the baking process the fillOIa M ine, hydrogen (and the hydrocarbon parts of the carbon) evaporate so as to leave only alumina-silica. On account of the absence of alkalis this material possesses a very high melting point exceeding 330d F. and is therefore far superior to all feldspar: porcelains in resistance to heat and, as in- 40 sulator to electric. current. i
Tclaiin: The process of producing a difficultly fusible porcelain comprising mixing clay silica, and a flux consisting essentially of aluminum fluosilicate and forming to desired shape, drying and burning.
In testimony whereof T have afiined my signature. 7 M EKERT.
